This whole situation has really put a bad taste in my mouth. I think the coaches AND players knew this was coming. They played Terre Haute and this deprived fan base that had FINALLY started to become engaged. Good luck winning them back.

I think we just have to acknowledge that the Valley is like a junior college conference in the 80s or 90s. All we can do is recruit players that will stay for a year or two. If you have success your coach will leave and you will lose your whole team.

They new reality is all the mid-major conferences are going to decline in talent...the MVC is now the new Horizen League......the Horizon League is the new OVC and so forth down the line...every middie league will progressively drop in talent as the cream rises to the top (P6).

The only positive that comes out of this is we don't have to put together a necessarily great team to win the Valley...cause everyone is going to be mediocre.

This could very well be the end of me being a lifelong 65 year ISU basketball fan. I remember watching ISU-UE games on WTVW and cheering on ISU before I had any idea about actually going to college myself. Avila leaving is the final stab in the heart. I am leaving and I may not be back.

The situation is akin to MLB....if every year, every player was a free agent....no multi year contracts.....chaos ensues.
It is just our turn.......and it hurts.

Guess what, I'll bet you the sun still rises tomorrow, ISU WILL have a basketball coach next year, who that will be, time will tell. ISU WILL still have young men representing the school as a basketball team next year. Again, who it will be will show in good time. ISU will have another President, AD and an incompetent BOT, always have always will.

Bobby Knight made a statement, "If rape is inevitable you might as well set back and enjoy it". The raping started with Schertz and continues as the players enter the portal, thru hiring our new coach and filling next years team. This all isn't going to be fixed tomorrow, Schertz was adding players a few weeks before season when he came in just to field a team and likely that will be the same this year.

I have been one of the biggest Cobie Barnes haters around. But I will say no I don’t think you’re stupid for saying that.

In fact - if they’re thinking at a really high-level and want to further entice Julian Larry to come back. They say look - we have $60k NIL money, we’re going to hire Jake Odum and we’re going to offer a scholarship to your friend a former teammate Cobie Barnes. That’s an enticing package. If Larry says deal - then you do it! Kid is a leader and has been loyal.

But I will say there’s a lot of really good players in the portal right now - Barnes has gotten better but you can find a lot of talent in that portal right now better than him.

Well first, he should be out of eligibility…but even if he has a year left, he just isn’t a D1 player. Had some success this year while playing NAIA. Just isn’t good enough player for what we should be recruiting…sure if he seals the deal for Ju, do it I guess.

Things have gotten wacky for you to be sticking your neck out for Cobie.
