I'm not defending him at all, in fact I love watching SLU crap the bed the last month or so (they will still get a tourney bid however) but you have to admit Schertz end of year "luck" the last 5-6 has been pretty bad.

19-20 season: had a 32-1 season that was cancelled due to covid, favorites too win a national championship at D2 which he never did.
20-21 season: I remember watching his D2 final four game when he was either named our coach or rumored to be our coach and I believe they lost on a loose ball desperation heave from the opposing team if I recall correctly.
22-23 season: We lost to Bradley in the MVC semis with an unlucky high bounce rebound on a 3 from Bradley which lead to Leons hitting 2 free throws to beat us (he was like a 50% free throw shooter). Then we lose 2nd round of CBI with a Cooper Neese missed floater he hit 99% of his career.
23-24 season: Drake starts the MVC championship game going 7-7 from 3, I mean who the hell does that? We all know how the NIT ended...
25-26 season: losing that game in that fashion in the A10 semi's is a pretty brutal loss.

He did pull out some close and exciting wins to get to those moments but that is a pretty brutal way to end some seasons over the last 5-6 years. You'd hate to see it keep happening......

Just looked at the bracket. Only 4 mid majors received at-large bids.
#9 St Louis - A10 - 28-5
#10 St Mary's - WCC - 27-5
#10 Santa Clara - WCC - 26-8
#11 in Play In Game - Miami Ohio - MAC - 31-1

While I'm glad Miami made the tournament, the fact that they are playing in a play in game in Dayton (and were the very last team in) is so unbelievably bad, regardless of if they win or not. Ranked 20th in the AP Poll, started out 31-0, and they nearly got completely hosed because they lost one game by 4 points. If they had gone 30-2 they wouldn't have made it. Think about that for a second.

They weren’t the last team in, SMU was. Their metrics just placed them at that seed.

They asked the committee that specific question. 🤷🏾‍♂️

But yes they wouldn’t been in at 30-2
It was a tongue in cheek response. Basically pointing out “metrics” are all that matters and of course “metrics” stuck the mid-major there.

Not directed at you, just a frustrating reality we live in right now

I wonder if we go to AI instead of a committee if that makes it any better

George Mason goes down to Liberty first round NIT. Liberty big man Josh Smith had 23 points. By the way he is from Monrovia Indiana, 40 min from Terre Haute. Guess the Sycamores missed that one in their backyard.

given that he spent 4 years at stetson before liberty - i'd venture a LOT of mid-major schools missed on him, not just the Sycamores

Makes me mad - our team from two years ago would beat both of these teams by 20. And yet we weren’t good enough for an at large. I know, bid stealers and other BS like that. We were good enough to be in. And I hold a grudge.

Didn't realize that Atlason kid from Bradley is on Miami(Ohio) team and average 10+ a game. I'll never forget Swope making him look like an absolute fool in the final seconds of that game vs Bradley in Hulman
