What would need to happen for Sycamore Basketball to make the jump to A-10?

Pros/cons?
ISU has no chance of ever getting into the A10. In terms of desirability for the A10 from the MVC it's likely Belmont, Drake, and Bradley in that order. Supposedly the College of Charleston is next on their pecking order should they seek to replace / add a school.

Simply put ISU doesn't have the academics, the money, or the market for the A10 to want us. The pros of joining would be an increased presence in the east coast and being in a perceived better conference. The cons are the increased travel and that we would likely be way outspent by every member in that league.

The MVC is the best it's going to get for ISU. I also believe that ISU, UNI, SIU, Murray State, Evansville, and Valpo will be long term members going forward, mostly because I don't see any of those schools being wanted by anyone else in a "higher" conference, nor do I see the 4 publics in my list trying to "move up" to FBS. Illinois State (FBS) and Belmont (A10) are the most likely to leave and my guess is that both will eventually leave in the not too distant future. Bradley, Drake, and UIC could leave under the right conditions, but those conditions are probably unlikely to happen.

*Note that I put "higher" and "move up" in quotations because I really don't believe that the AAC or the A10 are actually better conferences competitively than the MVC, nor do I believe that the MAC or CUSA are better than the MVFC competitively.

Color me shocked

Also it looks like most of the games involved were pretty close to home and at our mid-major level. Crazy
Prosecutors say from 2023 to 2025, the participants turned their attention to the NCAA, recruiting players and paying bribes between $10,000 and $30,000 per game. According to the indictment, more than 39 players on 17 different teams attempted to fix more than 29 NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball games, including conference tournament contests. The organizers of the alleged scheme made wagers totaling millions of dollars.

Those participating played for Tulane, Nicholls State University, St. Louis University, Fordham, DePaul among others, prosecutors said.

Don’t look now but Miami-Ohio is 18-0. Don’t think they’ve exactly played murderers row but 18-0 is damn impressive in college basketball no matter how you get there. Good for K. Smith and company

Some are alleging the point-shaving players did it "... because they're NOT getting "adequate / no NIL $$"
