The hardest part of college basketball is learning what fouls you can get away with.

Are you saying there were not rockets decades ago?

bullshit - go play for pitino, calipari or one of their ilk; it's all slaps, grabs and holds

there were MORE rockets decades ago. Shaquille O'Neal killed many, MANY rockets

This is a major disappointment for me. I really think he had a major upside
I agree the potential may have been there, but you have to change your mindset in todays portal world and ask, how many Merrit Alderink’s are there in the portal who already have D1 playing time, more than 15 min he had for the year. I am of belief of the close to 1000 kids already in the portal we have a chance to upgrade or at the very least find an equal talent with little stress. That’s not a knock on him it is just an assessment of the portal.

You're not wrong at all.

I'm wrong more than I'm right....but I think we end up regretting this one.
Like Peterson, Martin and the VMI guy? Well, that's the current landscape. Just go out into the portal and replace him.
Problem is it is accelerated recruiting and research to get the right guys.

Hoped Merritt would return. From an outside view, the playing time was available next year (depending on Gray).
He probably saw himself competing with JD at the 4 and Wagner on the wing. I think it's obvious that a starting spot would have been limited. MI is loaded with MAC teams where he could play.

A kid I would have liked to stick around. Seemed like the upside was there. Played pretty smoothly and had a good body for a freshman. He will probably have a solid career when it's all said and done. But he is easily replaceable and there are tons of MA in portal right now with more experience.
