Very good points. I really do think we did accomplish quite a bit with the little time we had to put together a team. If we can snag another couple players the caliber of Teel we will be in very good shape. Just having these guys come back to giving us some continuity will be a major plus, IMO.This is exactly who all we discussed for a better part of a month + now…
Cook, Legree, Summers were all a given.
I’d say the only other possibilities were Walker and Vorst because they might have been unhappy with playing time. Although, both carved out roles for themselves as they got healthy in the case of Vorst and as they got more experience and earned PT in the case of Walker. But I could have seen both players seeking more PT.
Camp/JD/Bruno played a lot of minutes last season - are likely not going to get overpaid in the portal - will get some NIL compensation to stay put and if they continue to develop/produce have even bigger NIL paydays ahead of them. The real NIL money is @ a P6 school and none of these guys is good enough to get serious interest from a P6 school at this point. It just doesn’t make any sense to leave this situation right now.
To that end the players are either smart enough to figure this out for themselves or they’ve got good people around them parents/coaches/family helping them understand this dynamic.
I’ve got to be honest - not a single one of them isn’t replaceable at this point. I’m glad they are staying it gives them and us the best chance - but had any of them jumped… Peace be with you.
Lastly, you look at the places some of these guys from Valpo and Evansville are getting attention from. It really highlights the fact that Graves may have done more with less than most coaches in the Valley this season. Those coaches had more desirable pieces from an NIL valuation standpoint and still had misrable seasons. Something to think about.
How about we restrict eligibility for the Larry Bird award to players in their final years of eligibility? I'm tired of seeing it go to someone that's not even in the Valley the next year.
One of the most interesting things to watch next year is how JD does at the 4. Renn at PU is going bonkers scoring inside from the 4. Their 5 stays out of his way.
I'm saying, I think Graves might have leaned a few things at Butler. Playing center is not rocket science.
"#RespectMyDecision" is so cringe
We need to just follow the St Mary’s coaches to Australia and/or Eastern Europe and recruit the same guys they do. The Gaels always have a couple of 6’10” guys that are comfortable with the ball in their hands with great court awareness
The hardest part of college basketball is learning what fouls you can get away with. The hell it's not - there's not nearly the footwork in today's center that you saw decades ago
Right. They really play two 4 1/2's. The same point applies.True but their "5" is really another 4...
I have noticed this board is no longer begging, pleading for Renn, Kaufman-Renn to quit the Big Ten and transfer to ISU...
Careful now.....that's a Sycamore Legend's kinfolk your talkin' 'bout.Right. They really play two 4 1/2's. The same point applies.
I don't like "dirty" Renn. He should be called for an offensive foul about 15 times a game.
