If the NCAA had any balls, and actually cared about student-athlete experience, they would do the following:

1. Take over all basketball scheduling. Every team would have an equal number of home and away games. The matchups would be random.

2. Act as an independent third party evaluator for “NIL” values for each player after their freshman year. They set the $ level for each player based on something like KenPom metrics, and if a kid leaves a school, the receiving school has to pay 25% of the NIL value to the losing school.

3. Reinstitute the “sit out a year” rule for transfers after the first one.

4. Facilitate multi year contracts for players and schools.

5. Allow trades of players in the offseason.

6. Cap coach’s salaries at 500% of a school’s average professor salary.

These would go a long way towards fixing the sport.

This madness is not sustainable. I'm not sure what can be done, but I think we're going to see something break in the near future.
The only way it will change is if the power conferences decide they've had enough. I can't even imagine how tough it is being a head coach at a mid-major right now.

I wouldn’t be so quick to blame the NCAA. Over the last few years almost every time the NCAA has tried to reign a program in or develop any type of guard rails the P5 has taken them to court and won.

Only so many times you can lose in court before you throw up your hands and give up.

You don’t just fight the fights you can win. You fight the fights that need fighting.

Litigation is expensive. And when you file and lose, and file and lose, and file and lose, eventually you start to come to the realization that you are outgunned and fighting an uphill battle.

When the state of California and the state of Tennessee (just to name two) join in to back their colleges with their unlimited funds, the NCAA faces a no win choice.

Even on the rare cases they have “won” the verdict had been appealed and they came out on the losing end later.

I don’t disagree that there has to be an oversight body to get a handle on some of this. It just won’t be the NCAA.

I don’t blame the NCAA. I blame the P5 and to a lesser extent the remaining college ADs and Presidents who were stupid enough (and short sided, or naive, or both) to give the P5 almost carte blanche authority.

Poor Evansville. Had a nice core of players had they stayed and built around, might have been top half of the MVC next year.

Now 3 of them in the portal and it’s time to rebuild again. College sports in such a bad shape.

I'm hearing from multiple people that Vorst will be joining Summers and Cook by entering the portal. Daughtry is staying from what I'm gathering...could be a few other guys that got very little to no playing time also transferring.
