Committing today at 12:00 PM PT on Instagram.

Ethan Lathan
is the No. 127 player in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. The Fort Lauderdale (FL) Calvary Christian center has proven to be one of the top rim protectors on the Under Armour Next Circuit, averaging close to two blocks while shooting 77 percent from the field.

“I’m a run-and-jump big man,” Lathan told On3. “I don’t want to put myself in a bubble, but defensively I can do everything. I guard the one through the five, I can block shots and do what you need for me to do on that end. On offense, I’m a lob threat, but can also post up. I’ve improved a lot this season offensively, not just being a lob threat but able to score with my back to the basket and around the paint.”
I want to commit before the end of the summer,” Lathan said. “Before the start of the school year. I want to sign in October.

“I want to go to a school that best fits me. You know, no school is going to recruit you where you don’t fit what they do. But I want to go somewhere that fits me as a person. No one wants to go somewhere they will be miserable. I’d like to go somewhere that I enjoy the school, I enjoy the scenery, I like the place. I want to go somewhere I can get a degree. The stuff outside of basketball will mean a lot; the basketball stuff will take care of itself.”

We are full, scholarship-wise, for next year, yes?

So if he commits there would have to be some creative reshuffling of the roster and scholarships, correct?

Someone always leaves.
With Lathan at 5 and Avila at 4, someone will have to transfer out.

It's safe to assume you are ALWAYS going to have someone transfer out in this day and age. You will probably start seeing schools going over their scholarship limits lot more frequently than in the past

I am pumped to see where he announces today. We are on the rise across the country and I can only hope that means playing in more meaningful games/NCAA tournaments and hopefully this program helping the University overall. Starts w the coach which we’ve checked off and now getting the players the coach needs to be successful, which he has always been very open about. Come be a Sycamore!

I highly doubt we are the choice here. A few of these guys on the forum have it down to a science and they know based on instagram/twitter follows and the timing of all that when a guy is coming here and when a guy isn’t. I feel like the last couple we’ve head rumors that something was coming soon… This guy is too big of a prospect to not have some information floating around.

But JS definitely on a different level of talent than we’ve seen here and actually getting traction so that’s fun!

Jason made a great comment earlier regarding it is possible for a player to go from an athletic Scholarship to an academic scholarship. Several years ago Kyle Kuric from Evansville Played at Louisville. His senior season he forgave his scholarship to allow them to bring in a high profile player and he either payed his own ride as he comes from a family with significant financial means or was given academic assistance. Trust me a 4 star 6'11" stud wants to come here room will be made.

No worries to over sign by one guy...especially the highest rated recruit in our history.
1. Convert Masen back to academic
2. Guy like Kiudulas who was a late pick up may not be a good fit and we move on.
3. Avila snatch's a pile of cash... (worst case scenario).
