Just for fun! Name your top 10 Sycamores from 1995 to present 2009. This can be based on team impact, stats, carer stats, ability.

1. Nate Green 14pts., 4asst., 5rbs., 3stl.
Is their any question! Anyone recall him being in Sports Illistrated his SR. year the one with Michal Jordan on the cover! Nate could do it all!

2. David Moss 17pts., 4assts., 6rbs., 2stl.
To bad he was never surrounded by very good teams. Number wise David Moss flat out got it done across the board. He was the best player on the floor for 3 years here.

3. Jayson Wells 17pts., 8rbs.
One of my favorite Sycamores of all time! Boy was this guy fun to watch. He could jump out of the gym and shoot the 3 ball.

4. Matt Renn 16pts., 3asst., 7rbs., 2stl.
Mr. Consistency got it done night in and night out. He carried the Sycamores in the late 90s. Just an all around great player!

5. Michael Menser 13 pts., 5asst., 3rbs., 2stl.
Mike hit big shot after big shot for years it seems. When the pressure was on he got better. He also had one of the best asst. to turnover ratios in the country for nearly 2 years. Played a lot like Lavance Fields for Pitt. currently does.

6. Jim Cruse 14pts., 10 rbs.
Don't really remember much about Jimmy Cruse. Hopefully you all can add some info. in here. Is he worthy of #6? I went based on numbers here.

7. Keylen Block 15pts., 3asst., 4rbs.
Not remembered by his sometimes inconsistent play. Rather remembered for that "root canal" effort in the upset win over Hollice Price and the #4 Oklahoma Sooner's in the NCAA tourney. Block scored 5 of his 17pts in over time to knock of the Sooner's!

8. Steve Heart 13pts., 2asst., 3rbs., 2stl.
Never really played up to his ability nor could he get it done in the class room. But Steve Heart could flat out fly! He was an excellent athlete who had soooo much talent.

9. Gabe Moore 12pts., 4asst., 3rbs., 2stl.
Gabe was a pretty solid college pg by the time his college career was over. You can't win in college without a quality PG and Gabe Morre was that.

10. Amani Dannish 11pts.,1asst., 7rbs., 1stl.
Don't remember a lot about Amani. The 10th spot was a toss up. I wanted to put Eric Gray or Stinson in this spot. I think their are a lot of names that could fit here!

These stats are not avg. stats over the carrer of the player. They are in most cases career highs. I was not around to see games before 1995, that is why I made 1995 the cut off. Ha.

Feel free to make your own list or challenge mine. Enjoy!

I would agree with most of your selections except Steve Hart. He basically only played one year, and shouldn't be on a list because of potential. I would replace him with Jay Tunnell, all though I would slide Tunnell down to 10 and move everyone else up.

i would agree about hart

people got too caught up in the fact that he could run and jump and dunk. unfortunately, people tended to overlook the fact that he couldn't shoot very well, his defense wasn't very good and he had problems staying academically eligible.

if it was a run and gun type of game, steve was pretty darn good. if it was a half-court offense and you had to actually run plays, then he wasn't quite so good. yes he went to iu, but he didn't stay there very long. from what i heard from people at iu, he drove bob knight nuts with his defensive problems. he had a very inconsistent jump shot.

jim cruse, on the other hand, definitely deserves to be ranked high on the list. he was the true definition of a blue-collar worker. he got the most out of his ability. very consistent rebounder and scorer down low. a team player.

i would put marshall on that list. he is as good as i've seen at isu for what he does. a smart, heady player who has gotten better each year that he has been at indiana state. going from a walk-on that most people didn't know who he was to being an integral part of the team.

i liked nate green, but i guess i wasn't as sold on him as much as other people were and are. don't get me wrong. he's a great kid and fun to watch play. i guess that i just expected more out of him during his career at isu. that's probably on me more than him. i kept waiting for him to make the next step in his development. but like i said, i liked him as a player.

1 ok
2 ok
3 Renn
4 Menser
5 Cruse
6 Marshall
7 Wells
8 Gabe
9 Kante
10 Tunnell

I really can't remember back to 95. are the rosters available somewhere? I think Inman was in there. He scored a lot of points for us and i'm sure we had a few good ones that I can't remember.

I forgot about Kante. I would put him on there as well over Kaman. As for Marshall, I will hold off judgement on him until next year. This will truly be his team next year. Hats off to learning on the fly as a point guard this year. He took a few too many ill advised shots for my taste, but that's the control person in me. McKenna and staff may have given him the green light. Key now is to move forward in progression from this point for him and all the Sycamores. No stagnation or regression. Hit the weight room hard in the offseason.

here's my list....wish i hadn't thrown out all my old men's basketball guides...

when i moved into my new house. lol...

but here goes.....

my preliminary list would be.....

1. menser
2. green
3. wells
4. moss
5. cruse
6. renn
7. block
8. kante
9. marshall
10. tunnell

now, that being said, i need to look at some of the older isu men's basketball rosters...in order to check and see if guys like travis inman, jeff lauritzen, kenny rowan, jimmie holliday, ron cheatham, dewayne brown, etc.....some or all of them may have played before 1995....but i'd like to check and make sure.....

Kaman? Sorry, meant Dannish.

This is really strange that our opinions are so different. In my mind, Green, Moss and Menser are totally and without a doubt 1-2-3.

1. Matt Renn

2. David Moss

3. Michael Menser

4. Jaysen Wells

5. Nate Green

6. Gabe Moore

7. Jim Cruse

8. Jay Tunnell

9. Keylen Block

10. Djibril Kante

I was a huge fan of Tyson Schnitker as well. Unfortunately, he transferred to Southern Indiana.

Cruse deserves to be up there on such a list. It's pretty impressive that a 6'4" player could rebound like he did. Hart was a pretty solid contributor at Indiana State during his brief stint with the team. His biggest mistake was going to Indiana where they tried to make him a role player. For as much as people disregard him now, his athletic ability was pretty amazing to watch. I doubt the pep rallies/dunk exhibitions at South have ever been as entertaining as they were back then.

bent...that's what i mean

steve hart could run, jump and dunk. but it was the other parts of his game that kept him from being more than what he could have been. he had so much talent, but it didn't show up as much as it could have. and, yes, i know he had nba tryouts. i interviewed him several times when he was trying to make the minnesota timberwolves roster. i like steve. but i think we sometimes get too caught up in his dunking and jumping and don't take things such as passing, defending and other basketball skills necessary to be successful. sometimes i guess i'd like to have a guy with perhaps a little less physical talent but who can do all the little things that you need to win. that's why i enjoy people like jim cruse, who just gutted it out. played hard all the time. if you needed a rebound, he's get it. if you needed a basket down low, he get it. if you needed to recover a loose ball in a crucial situation, he'd elbow his way down to the floor and find it. he wasn't the fastest or the quickest, couldn't jump the highest. he just found a way to get it done.

Fellas look at the stats and Kante was mildly over rated based on stats. Now I am not one to look at strictly numbers and I liked Kante as a player. But I am just not sure he is worthy of my top 10 list. ahah But seriously I took him into consideration and he didn't make the cut.

Jayson Wells has to be in the top 5 on the list no matter what. Along with Renn, Green, Moss and Menser. You can do in order you want but those guys are hands down the best 5players.

I really would not put Jay or Harry on that list at this point. Let's consider something for a second. Jay and Harry have just been memebers of some of the most dissapointing years in Indiana State basketball history. Since Jay has been here he has under preformed in my opinion. (I know I know he has been hurt). But this kid was highly touted comming out of highschool. He's just not a top 10 player on this list.

Harry makes a pretty good case for himself. The fact that he walked on and he plays so damm hard helps his case. He just seems to be a pretty good kid.

my list is largely incomplete....

until i can get a better chance of reviewing the rosters from 1995 to now....i grew up watching isu basketball in the late 1960s and eatly 1970s on tv and in person with the likes of george pillow, danny bush, howard williams, rick williams, paul siebenmorgan, janis ludeks to when i attended isu with larry, harry, decarsta webster, richard johnson, danny king, leroy staley, brad miley, carl nicks, steve reed, alex gilbert to when i worked in the athletic department at isu and we had eddie bird, ken bannister, winfred king, johnny edwards, terry braun, mark golden, reggie golden, darrion applewhite, chris harris, darin liles, jimmie holliday, dewayne brown, ron cheatham, travis inman, rob vickers, jeff lauritzen, john sherman williams, olufemi akinola, taju olajuwon, mike jovanovich as well as others that i can't think of right now.

i go from gordon stauffer to bob king, bill hodges, ron greene, dave schellhause, tates locke, sherman dillard. i left before royce waltman was hired. i span isu hoops from the late 1960s/early 1970s to when i left isu in 1997.

Ok well my range does not date back that far. I wish I was around to see the fab 5. Chris Webber is my favorite basektball player of all time. Dont ask! Im serious I am a huge fan of C-Webb and the fab 5. Only reason I mention this is you were talking about history and historic players of note. ahah Sorry to get off subject.

I don't think there is any question that Marshall is the best walk on player in that period and by the end of next season he might prove to be among the all time greats.
