I believe Chris will be transferring to a Division II school in Arkansas to play football next year.

Well, if he does transfer, I wish him the best of luck. He seems like a good kid and a good teammate. He was put in a difficult spot, and there was no public "poison" or bad chemistry as a result of the coaching staff going in a different direction--signs of a class act. Keep your head up Chris.

That's too bad. I wish him the very best as I don't think he got a fair shake here just because we didn't have the offensive line for his style of play. I also agree with nsf that he was a consummate teammate.

So...

he's not 'cut out' for Div I ball?

Question of playing time??

Just wondering how one goes from FBS to FCS to Div II in three seasons...

If this is true then I wish him the best for he seemed to be a very nice young man with a pretty good head on his shoulders, I just hate to see a athlete jump around this much for athletics after all it is supposed to be about academics. I blame our coaching staff for not realizing that his style would not fit our level of talent. Good luck Chris.

hey sycamore fan...coaching staff had nothing to do with it....

poor offensive line play...lack of pass protection...had everything to do with it.....and all of those reasons were all about tons of inexperience on the offensive line....he got a chance to play...it's not like he didn't receive an opportunity to show what he could do.....it was more about being around at a time when we couldn't pass protect sufficiently....it wasnt his fault.....and it wasnt anybody's fault.....it was more of a timing issue.....

In support of 317 (I know crazy, right) Tom James is never going to come on here and actually blame the coaching staff, that's simply not going to happen. The fact that he comes on here and defends them does not surprise me. That's NOT to suggest that I am not happy with the job they have done. Did we have a weak O-Line last year? Yeah no doubt about it, but to lay everything on them is simply not fair. I blame Chris a little bit, because in my mind he came to Indiana State to big. Maybe he can't help that, maybe he can I don't know. He should have came in a little more agile and a little more fit. Granted the kid did anything and everything that was asked of him, looked like a student of the game for sure. But he got thrown into the fire at the beginning of the season and things got really hot and the coaching staff bailed on him. They bailed on a lot of guys last year, for better or worse Tom that is what happened. They never really let 1 QB get comfortable with the O and I blame that on them for sure.

The coaches were trying to put the right combination of players on the field to win and they finally did. If they had tried to force things with some players, I'm not sure we would have improved much and we did.

The fact that Morgan is contrariran about this subject does not surprise me either.

They HAD to have the most athletic QB out there they could... Chris wasn't it. Chris definitely needed to lose some lbs.... not bagging on the guy... but he can't look at video of himself and disagree with me.

The coaches should have realized what level of play they were going to get from their offensive line and there fore a drop back passer with limited mobility would not work. It is called evaluating your talent.

What if part of the agreement was that he was to lose weight, and work with trainers on footwork before the season... and it didn't happen? I have no idea, but really either do you.

In fairness to the coaches, the O-Line had 2 significant (i.e., season ending) injuries; one very early in the season, the 2nd in the off season, but probably after they had recruited Chris. After recruiting him, and with the needs at the position, he had to play. You don't hand out a scholarship to a kid you probably told will get every opportunity to win a starting job, then not give him that opportunity. After 2 games with around 100 total yards, they realized it was not going to work and made a change.

Bottom line is that it did not matter who QB was, with only 1000 yds rushing on the season our run game was not a threat therefore all you had to do was get after our QB which limited the throw. If I am not mistaken Ryan had over a third of the rushing yards mostly running for his life. Common factor OL was not there YET. Hard to play freshman and soph. against upper class. This year we should be much better up front barring any big injuries like previously mentioned. I wish the best to Chris whatever he does.
