The White Level
Hi, im looking for new cross country shoes cause mine are worn out but I dont know which type, brand, or model to buy. My price range is about 30-50 bucks but Im a size 6.5-7. Right now im running about 24 miles or so a week. Once junior high season starts though, it might drop to around 20 miles a week due to the fact that I am training with the fishers high school team right now. If anybody has any advice or suggestions, please post them here. Any and all info is greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

I tell you what at your age and still even in college I loved to run in Nike running shoes because they were "cool" and they looked the best. Well in running shoes looks is not always the most important. Nike makes the best running spikes on the market in my opinon but as far as running shoes go. You can't really go wrong with Brooks - Indiana State runners run in Brooks Adrenaline 8's and I think they are a really good shoe for the money. If you like Nikes the Pegasus is always a good shoe - but Nike has really amped up it's running shoes in the past couple of years. You really can't go wrong with Nike or Brooks running shoes - just my opinion!

I personally never had a lot of luck with Muzzuno running shoes - however they make a some pretty good running shoes.

Good luck! I am sure some of the other guys will have better advice than me.

Yea I am a big fans of Brooks also. Asics are good too. My advice would be to go to the Running Company and have them analyze your stride and see what shoe you should be in. There is one in Fishers, also in Broadripple, Westfield, and a couple of other places I believe.

His mom took him into the Running Company on 116th in Fishers and they were apparently ignored by the sales associated on duty. Maybe we'll try a different store, I know there is on in Carmel over by my office.

ahah ya hear that Scott they were ignored - I bet Tony was working! lol ahahah I hope Tony sees this post - Tony that's awful customer services, ignore the customers. Nice! lol

Yeah, the wife was not happy at all. She is big on customer service as she works as a Director of Membership Services at her place of employment and she felt the sales associate working was customer profiling.

Possibly - most runners are pricks! lol

Customer Service Experience-

So yesterday I got off work and needed to get my propane tank filled so I could cook me some dinner on the grill (I can only cook stuff on the grill) lol. But I pulled in the place at 5:00 on the dot and the sign on the door had already been flipped to "Closed" I went the the door and it was still unlocked. One guy was getting ready to leave and the other was finishing some things up, I asked if I could get my propane tank. The guy getting ready to leave said it's already locked up but I will go grab a key. The other guy took care of my payment... I tell you what most people would not have been so kind - I have been in that situation before and most people don't take the time to help you out. I told them guys, "thanks to you guys I can fire up the grill tonight" they said that they took that into consideration, "we could tell you wanted to grill out tonight"!

I am very happy with the outcome and anytime I need gas I will go to them fellas for my gas! lol

As the others have said the Brooks Adrenaline seems to be a very good shoe for most runners but is a little pricier than what you had mentioned. Most running stores can give you a small discount though around 10% to club and high school runners so maybe you'd end up paying about $75 for a really good pair of shoes. I would highly suggest checking out the Nike Pegasus though, cheap shoe, and definitely my shoe of choice. Just my 2 cents.

They went back to the Running Company and had a good salesman this time around. They got Tanner up on the treadmill and found out he slightly pronates. They decided on a shoe but they didn't have it in his size -- apparently it is a very tough size to keep in stock. Wife ended up picking up some moisture wicking socks just because she didn't want to leave empty handed.

Anyhow, they then went over to Dicks and ended up finding the shoe he wanted at the Running Company -- the Brooks Adrenaline 8s. They only carried two shoes that were suggested for those with pronation, so he got the Brooks that you guys recommended. Think they were like $65. Thanks to everyone that gave Tanner suggestions, he did appreciate them.

just wanted to add my two cents since i have experience in this field - people can give suggestions for certain shoes but those suggestions are what work for their gait and their foot structure. so it doesn't really matter what others have run in and used. each shoe company makes their shoes with their own little tweaks, feel, material... so i may enjoy a neutral shoe from one company but you may enjoy a neutral shoe from another simply because they make a lower profile, wider toe-box, higher heel... etc, etc, etc it could go on all day. so the best thing is to ignore blind suggestions and get that shoe specialist at the running specialty store to analyze your gait and foot structure.
