Bob Kravitz out of job

WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

Oh I’ve enjoyed Bob Kravitz over the years… It was more along the lines of what Jason was getting at. Just not going to pay another subscription to read print media. Too many other options for content. Nothing against Bob.

Well, in general the Indy Star's "featured sports writer," has not been replaced by a "better" one... While I read a lot of Bill Benner's work over the years, Kravitz was not as good as Benner, in fact, a downgrade; again, read a fair amount of Kravitz's work and while he wasn't great, his replacement, Gregg Doyel is not as "good" as Kravitz.

I'd be willing to buy a subscription to an "AP-like" service BUT in return, I get ALL AP Content, regardless of what flagship paper, weekend giveaway or birdcage liner it's "published i..." It'll never happen but that's a service I'd spend coins on to receive.

Imagine how different the situation with Curtis might be if we still had decent local journalism covering ISU. It's long gone though. Some of you may not like Kravitz or some NYT journalist you read about who died before you were even born, but journalism is still a valuable institution. The more we tear it down and distrust our government the weaker our overall society and country become.
Well at least 90% of the media today is Democrat leaning, so I'm sure you love reading your propaganda. Our government has also fully earned the distrust of the American people.

👆 This reads like a Classic Propaganda "Public Statement." 👆

I've been defending the merits of journalism in this thread. Haven't brought up politics once. Frankly, it gets exhausting reading posts from some of you because you bring up your politics in every other post and thread. You have grievances, your angry, it consumes your life, we get it and we don't freaking care!!!

So true… I tend to get a little political from time to time maybe once a week on my Twitter. I’m pretty darn conservative in my beliefs.

People on this forum make me want to vote Democrat 😂😂 I wouldn’t but it’s a natural reaction.

Try writing this again, but without the one I've, the three you's, the three your's and the two we's.

This is the same tedious and painful-to-read writing style as SSOM, and it doesn't need to be copied, by anyone.

And if there's a point to made, it's lost in all of the unnecessary pronouns, personal pronouns, first person pronouns, etc. If there's names associated with the you and your, provide names, most everyone on here has pretty thick skin.

When it's rewritten, I'm sure the tone will be less irate and exasperated, and the writer's point will be made for all to understand.

Yes, and I'm telling you that true journalism is almost non-existent today. You can't hardly read a news article anymore that doesn't contain some kind of left leaning political narrative that's inserted by the writer.

As for the NY Times, it hasn't endorsed a single Republican for president since 1956. That paper in particular is nothing but a Democrat mouthpiece, but I'm sure that doesn't bother you at all. I also gave a list of pretty significant things that paper has been on the wrong side of. Funny how when I said that I wished they had to layoff 100% of their workforce that I'm labeled as "tearing down journalism". The NYT already tore down journalism themselves decades ago.

You're obviously stuck in a echo chamber; if you seek (your words) "non-left leaning political narratives," then subscribe to National Review magazine, a weekly publication, ergo pretty topical, read the WSJ, the Washington Examiner or Washington Times; I doubt he tweets but George Will is still producing copy. Mark Levin and Ben Shapiro LOVE to talk. It seems as if you simply want to throw rocks at one segment of society.

FWIW, since 1956, there have been 8 GOP Presidential Administrations and 8 DEM Presidential Administrations; 1-2 of those GOP POTUS Admins were via the Electoral College... pretty simple math will tell you that the NYT 'Presidential Endorsement' is as much a losing endorsement as winning endorsement...

And if ANY voter uses an endorsement from ANY publication... frankly, I'm skeptical of that voter's intellect.

In addition to what 4Q said, an editorial page's opinion, or for network TV their nightly lineup of rebel rousers, usually doesn't influence the rest of the coverage. Once you get past the Hannitys on Fox News, even it has some shows and reporters/hosts who are fairly objective (although many have left in protest and are among their most hated by their viewers).

And, since you enjoy studying journalism history, read about the days of yellow journalism and the battle between Hearst and Pulitzer. Watch Citizen Kane if you haven't. News media influencing public opinion is nothing new. And if you learn from history there is reason to appreciate the more neutral and objective publications.

Also, Google search media bias charts. I don't agree with all of them but they're usually pretty close to accurate. Follow those who are moderate/closer to the middle. And if you still read stuff into their coverage that feels far left, you might look in the mirror and ask how much of that is perceptions vs reality.

I'd say it was pretty easy to follow.

That's the trouble with you "youngsters,"... too "naïve" to know what happens when you follow the yellow bricks... you end up see behind that green curtain! o_O:ROFLMAO:
A quarter for every interesting article. Let's give that model a try and see what happens.

A quarter for every interesting article. Let's give that model a try and see what happens.

Who is deciding if the article is interesting? Are you asking the person to send a quarter if they find an article interesting? Or are you asking them to send a quarter for an article you found interesting?

In podcasting, there is already something similar to this that started up a few years ago by Adam Curry, the former MTV VJ. He coined "Value for Value" where listeners of his podcasts can give him some Bitcoin (Sats over the Lightning network specifically) if they liked the episode, wanted to leave a comment, etc. There are also some apps that have been developed surrounding this model, Fountain for example.
