Here are some of the names I've heard associated with the opening at Bradley:

Rob Jeter - Head Coach UW-Milwaukee. Led UWM to the Horizon League championship game this season. Is 101-88 in 6 seasons. Former assistant at Wisconsin and Marquette.

Jerrance Howard - Assistant Coach Illinois. A Peoria native (Bradley is in Peoria for all of you non-geography majors). Has also been an assistant at Kentucky and Texas A&M.

Ray Giacoletti - Assistant Coach Gonzaga. Another Peoria native (although my guys tell me he's from the East Side - don't know if that's good or bad!) Former head coach at Utah, Eastern Washington, and North Dakota State.

Greg Gard - Assistant Coach Wisconsin. Has been an assistant at Wisconsin for the past 10 seasons and been with Bo Ryan for the last 17 years.

Paul Lusk - Associate head coach Purdue. A graduate of Southern Illinois. Has been at Purdue for the past 7 seasons.

Barry Hinson - DBO Kansas. Former head coach at Oral Roberts and Missouri State (205-140).

There have been a bunch of other names thrown out there, but these are the ones that I've heard the most.

Of that list I think the best choices would be either Jeter or Greg Gard from Wisconsin. From what I hear Paul Lusk said he's not interested in a head coaching job at this time but that's just a rumor.

Frankly, they could do a lot worse than Barry Hinson. The guy's teams were always athletic, always talented, and if the Selection Committee hadn't given him the royal screw a couple of times, he'd still be in Springfield. Shoot, he only averaged like 20 wins a season.

He's also a really nice guy. Had a very friendly email exchange with him. Great guy!

Barrry Hinson is a rare coach. I dont care what anyone says I always liked him A as a human being and B as a coach, he was very old school for the type of athlete his team regularly had.
Todd Lickliter really thought that little of? That guy could take any team with any athlete and turn them into a winner.

Don't go too far off the deep end there guy.....................Lickliter.......you're kidding right? He should have stayed with high school coaching.........the murphy principle at its best.

:krazy:

How about "The Peter Principle"?…….you know, whereby one eventually gets promoted to a position beyond their capability.

Lickliter turned Butler what it was before Stevens got there. Don't forget that and before Lickliter it was Thad Matta.

You guys are kidding right? Lickliter has three trips to the tourney with what was at the time a completely unathletic team lol. Also two Sweet 16 runs O AND DONT FORGET...he's the reason they got Gordon Hayward.

Hey now...do I sense disharmony within the OFC circle? Gimme a break...I'm still working on my "Prophet" endorsement, given the early-season screwup on Coach Lansing. Thank God there's always redemption.

No......................not kidding.....................don't buy the short history at Butler..........see what he did for Iowa. Ask their AD if he would hire him again if Stevens left?

Not sure I agree with that. He inherited a very solid program at Butler, essentially acted as a recruiter and figure head for a few years, and then got out before being exposed. I would say his tenure at Iowa paints a more realistic picture of his coaching abilities.

Landrus, I know you're one of the younger guys on this forum, so it's worth noting for your sake that Barry Collier and Thad Matta were the two guys most responsible for building a successful program at Butler. I'm not a Butler fan by any stretch, but those two guys were the architects of the so-called Butler Way (the positive connotation).

Lickliter did a little quality recruiting, but basically rode the wave long enough to fool Iowa into giving him a few million bucks. A very wise and opportunistic move on his part, but it didn't take long for Iowa to learn that they'd been duped.

and Lowery is the SHINING example of ripping off the establishment. Really feel somewhat sorry for the SIU fanbase for the next 3 yrs...........yes 3 yrs. left on his big contract and no way to pay him off. Lowery was one of the smartest guys around when he took them to the well for mucho dollars over a long term and then his teams started downward right afterward with running people off, players transferring and basically refusing to play for him?

lol like Iowa was having great success after he left? That program has issues...I would gladly have him at ISU if Greg left...the guy was a proven commoddity at Butler and I had to see several of their games...(sister is an alum) And it always seemed to be that in a close game, he always made that one or two smart decisions that won the game for the dawgs.

Teamwork, you got me. I smeared my laptop screen attempting to squish that friggin' bug.......asshole!!.........LOL

DG, we'll have to respectfully agree to disagree.

Even though Steve Alford had moderate success at Iowa, I'll concede that he left Lickliter with a program that definitely needed a fresh voice and a bit of cleaning up. But the old adage tells most of the story: Lickliter left the Iowa program in much worse shape than when he inherited it.

And although things that happened toward the end of Alford's tenure nudged things in the wrong direction, the program under Lickliter's leadership completely fell apart. He may not have been dealt the best hand, but Lickliter did absolutely nothing to get Iowa basketball back on track. Didn't recruit well enough, and neither developed nor "coached up" what he had.

Landing Hayward and making "one or two" game-saving decisions at Butler doesn't exactly complete a sparkling resume. You have my word, if Lickliter ever takes over a rebuilding effort and actually succeeds, I'll eat crow and buy you a beer!
