MVC coulda used the exit fee of 17 million each from Wichita State, Creighton, and Loyola when they left.

I'm not sure I understand this. For all intents and purposes, the Pac 12 is dead. It would make more sense for them to go elsewhere versus trying to raid multiple conferences to then just effectively have a second tier conference at the end.

Will those 12 teams targeted have 17mil to exit The Mountain West? I agree The Pac12 is dead.

They'll just pay out of their endowments.

The Pac 12 did have a great academic reputation so some schools may be gambling that the brand still is worth more than their current conference brand. That's the only thing I can really point to.

Dakota schools, you are officially on the clock.

** Can throw Montana and Montana State in there as well

2 of the 4? From the football side of things that would leave INSU, ILST, UNI, MURRAY ST, YSU, SIU, USD and UND.

If NDSU and SDSU leave the summit for basketball that leaves UMKC, St. Thomas, OMA, DEN, and ORU. (Does this push ORU, St Thomas, or UMKC toward the MVC?)

This will be interesting.

If any of that were to happen, now is the time end the two conference madness. Unify the Missouri Valley into one fucking unit.

But that'll really depend on how fungible their endowments are at the moment, correct? Many endowments are, can be very 'rigid' in how they spend $$

To the casual fan, the Pac-12, even Pac-10 resonates more than the Mountain West, the yahoo story also mentions "assets..." essentially conf. coffers of ~$43M before California & Stanford fled

100% -- it will be gamble that they will have to try to rationalize if it is worth it or not. If not from endowments, they'll probably try to sell it to their big academic donors, I'd imagine. This may be the one time they could essentially go to those people if they're selling the academic prestige.

F it... Valley needs to merge the football conference. Become the premier tier mid major conference... Get to 18 teams, 2 bball NCAA bids... Which is better monetarily than 1 split between 11 teams.... That adds 5 teams... Then look at Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, EKU (these teams are jacked up with conference affiliations and need stability), also NKU, Uchat. Have East and West divisions.. pick best 2 beyond valley merger.

I honestly believe this is the moment the Dakota State schools have been waiting for. I used to be of the thought they'd be insane to leave FCS, but now you get to enter into a weakened Mountain West, compete for the G5 playoff spot every year, benefit from the exposure and continue to be a premiere program, just in an FBS conference. Plus TV money, which I believe the latest deal with the MTN West was $45m?

Going to find out a lot about both commissioners and their vision for the Valley over the next year...hopefully we're prepped and not caught with our pants down.

Yep, this is probably their last opportunity to make the jump into favorable conditions. I don't know enough about their academics to know if they could get the president approvals though.

I'm trying to wrap my head around this but I guess 2PAC must of brought alot to the table in order to get these schools to join.

I think they got like $10-15m for the 2 that were left this year from Fox. So if that is the ballpark of what they could get for a full conference, it's better than less.

Being out West, they have the ability to get on basic cable and local Fox in said markets, too. For example, here in Vegas, a ton of Mountain West games are always shown locally.

From the discussions on Reddit, it sounds like if the "Pac2" joined the Mountain West they would lose the rights to a lot of money still owed to the Pac12, so that's why it's a backwards merger.

Also for the Dakotas and Montanas moving up, I don't think it's the right time. Imagine spending millions to move to FBS, and then in 4-6 years the B1G and SEC split off and everyone else gets demoted to what is essentially the new FCS. Not dissimilar from Wichita State "moving up" only to find themselves in an AAC that no longer includes SMU, Houston, UCF, or Cincinnati.

This news is kind of hilarious when you look back to how the MWC was formed. Several schools from the WAC had a secret meeting at an airport to form the present day MWC, and now it appears 4 MWC schools plus the 2PAC met in secret to rebuild the Pac-10.

The "Pac-6" will need to add at least two more schools for AQ status as an FBS conference. I think UNLV has a pretty good chance at getting a phone call soon, but it's hard for me to say who else will get an invite. They're obviously going to poach the best from the MWC and maybe try to get some AAC teams on board too.

UTEP and New Mexico State seem like the most obvious back fill options for whatever is left of the MWC. The Montana schools, Dakota States, and Idaho are other options as well.

If they're potentially getting $10-15m via media rights, they're much better off. Remember, Missouri State is getting $1.5m in their move up.

My guess is the interest isn't there the other way unless I'm understating their media markets. Too lazy to look up before hitting post. LOL

Giving NDSU and SDSU an extra $5-10m to supplement their football programs would be quite an interesting case study.
