Anyone have any updates on Carl's back spasms? Hope it doesn't linger too long. The long break coming up will hopefully give him a chance to recover, but I hope he can go against Purdue.

I talked to him last nite and he seems to think he will be well enough to play against Purdue at this time, but he said that last week and could not make the game on Saturday, hopefully he can go!!

Let me say this much - I don't care what your injury (and I am not questioning Richards or JP's) if you can't get yourself healthy in time to play a Big Ten opponent at Conseco Field House then you aint really fit to play college basketball. You'd have to pry me off that floor, I'm sorry that's just the way I feel about it. I'd be telling coach and everyone all week that I am fine, I am good to go.

Get in the training room (like they are doing) get the rehab stuff taken care of and show Brad that you are good to go, tell Brad that you are good to go and BOOM he will clear you to play like that.

It's Purdue - it's a big stage - it's a ranked school - it's an instate school - it's the last non-conferece game - you have a full week off after this game. Let's play ball!

Thanks for the update. I really hope it's not a nagging injury that sticks with him. That has to be frustrating to be able to play one day and be in pain again the next.

With the exception of "It's Purdue - it's a big stage - it's a ranked school - it's an instate school - it's the last non-conferece game", I disagree with everything you said.

Injuries are just that, injuries....and the human body needs time to heal. The worst thing a person could do is play prematurely and aggravate the injury. We need Printy and Richard on the court for the Purdue game like it's nobody's business, but at the risk of missing more games/conference games? Thank you but no.

I think Indiana State should say all week that he's not going to play. Then time for the team to take the floor, have him in full uniform and ready to go if he is ready to go. That will surely throw them off their gameplan.

And that's ok - I mean you probably don't respect something like what Cal Ripken was able to do or Brett Farve - you think those guys never played hurt? It's not about being hurt or not - in college sports if you spend to much time in the training room they find replacements for you. Time spent in the training room and not on the floor, is time spent giving someone else a chance to take your place. In college basketball and professional sports they will find people that do one heck of a job filling in.... You got two ways of looking at it and your way is fine I totally understand. But I can tell you what if I am playing college basketball and I am playing big minutes I am going to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I can to make sure I am on the floor playing the game and NOT in the training room. It's that simple to me.

Bank...maybe a trip down memory lane...as in bring the back the ole Golden Touch Massage Parlor that was on the West side of 3rd St....not to far from the Dairy Queen.

Anyway, for $10.00 back in the very early 70's.......uh, um....don't ya think ...ole Carl's back would be as right as Spring rain...with just a few visits! Best sports trainers we had back in the day, eh?:wordyo:

I'd rather have Carl healthy for the MVC season than a upset chance against Purdue....just saying!

It depends on the injury/medical issue...

This is the story behind the end of Bird's career -- an irregular heartbeat -- the condition, called atrial fibrillation...

not that his back wasn't problematic or his ankles, heels, etc but it was the heart condition that led to "the sooner rather than later" retirement.

Thankfully, Carl doesn't have heart issues (a la Reggie Lewis, Hank Gathers); back spasms are nothing to sneeze at, can definitely affect mobility, etc -- we're not talking about about a dislocated finger, sprain/strain

I don't think anyone suggested that they were worth sneezing at, did they? Did I? Just asking... Fact is some people have a higher pain tolerance than others. Another fact is some people like the attention that comes with being injured. That's not to say that they like being injured, rather they like the one on one, bend over backward for you mentality of athletic trainers in college.

To me it's a matter of how you conduct business, some people look at "being injured" as showing a sign of weakness and they'd rather not show that. I sure as heck wouldn't - I want to be remembered for being tough, someone that put it all on the line. It really can tell you a lot about someone.

I am NOT questioning if Carl or JP is hurt, not at all! I am not in the locker room and I don't really have any idea what those guys are dealing with. If I was in the locker room I could probably tell you who really was dealing with an injury and who was being soft - it's not hard to tell the difference. I don't think either of those guys have missed many games in their career so you can't really suggest they are "faking it". I am not doing that, I am just suggesting that (without knowing what kind of pain they are in) that I would be doing whatever I could to be out on the floor Saturday. I wouldn't use the injury as an excuse and I would probably make an attempt to start distancing myself from any medical attention. Quick reports - hey I feel good and BOOM be gone with it. They will only ask a few times! lol
