watching highlights from this game it looks like Arizona continually drove the lane and shot the ball. Odum is gonna have to shoot the ball more often this game when he drives. So we'll see if he actually does this as opposed to always looking to pass back out.

Definitely a winnable game for ISU if we play like we have been lately

Miami reminds me of the play and matchup of Ole Miss. The bigs will need the same effort and who ever guards Larkin will need to play excellent defense and shut him down shooting and passing wise. Larkin is good and has speed. He is the son of Barry Larkin former baseball great who is not a Cub but some other non team in Ohio and who is currently managed by a former Cub manager.

Game may be for 3rd place but hope our Sycamores play like it is for the championship. Would be a good resume win over a quality BCS team. 2 of 3 in Hawaii could be deemed a semi-successful trip.

GO SYCAMORES !

Fo sho! If at the beginning of the season we were told we'd go 2-1 against the likes of Ole Miss, Miami, and SDSU, I think we all would have been pretty happy with that news.

Let's take down the Hurricanes!

Do ya think I'll find a bar anywhere in FL w/ this game on?

This game is scheduled on ESPN2 (Not ESPNU) at 7:30 p.m. EST Christmas Day/Night. Would hope you could find it somewhere if not at home? Although isn't football the big gig down that way?

Ya, that's what I was hinting...doubt if 100 people in FL will be thinking ROUNDBALL. We've got the ND/'Bama "invasion" already in motion. I hate this time of year down here - roads are so congested w/ snowbirds, tourists and drunks. :blackeye: I'm content w/ cabin fever & my TV hoop games.

Wow. I would consider winning 2 of 3 games in this tourney as being wildly successful, especially after winning the first game and

would definitely be a huge deal getting 2 of 3. If we are going to do it we have to contain Scott. Also looking at their guys who play 2 of them are 6'11 and have some weight on them. Paging Jake Kitchell. Your presence is needed in this one! Gant and Mahurin keep playing like you have the last two and we'll come out with a victory over a good team.

Indiana State (6-4) Squares Off with Miami (FL) (8-2)

Tuesday is a date fans have been waiting for as Miami (FL) takes on Indiana State. It starts at 7:30 EST and it will be televised on ESPN 2. Miami (FL) is ranked No. 7 in the RPI, and Indiana State may struggle considering its 0-1 record against RPI Top 50 teams. The Sycamores currently sport a record of 6-4. The Hurricanes have a record of 8-2. StatSmack! Indiana State is better than Miami (FL)

  • The Missouri Valley has 2 teams - Drake (43.5%) and Creighton (41.8%) - that shoot a better three-point percentage than the ACC leader, Duke (41.0%).
  • The Indiana State three-point leader (Lucas Eitel) has more three-pointers than the Miami three-point leader (Shane Larkin).
  • Winning is in our blood. Indiana State had a better record in close games than Miami last season (5-2 vs 4-6).
  • The top-ranking players between the two conferences for points, field goals made, three-pointers, assists, and steals are in the Missouri Valley.

Basketball Gameday Central: Sycamores Take On Miami Christmas Day

IMO, we will have more trouble with Miami, than what we had with either Mississippi or San Diego State. I hope I'm wrong.

They have three guys that are 6'10", one that is 6'11", and one that is 7'.....

Of the 6'10" guys....one is 292, one 250 and the other 236. The 6'11" is 242, and the 7 footer is a slim 227 who BTW was the 13th best rated center out of HS in the country......and all the 6'10 guys and the 6'11" are all a whos who of top rated players out of HS also.

And worst of all....this Miami squad has six Seniors and four Juniors. Kitchell, Mahurin and Gant have never faced or seen anything like these guys....EVER.

Okay....this is probably forbidden to say and isn't very opitimistic, but we're going to get killed in the Front Court. Where's Leitnaker when we need him?

We are a 7 point dog against Miami. I don't gamble, but I like to follow the lines and see how close they are. We have covered both games so far getting even more points than this.

Hope the guys didn't get too worn out on their day off, but wouldn't blame them if they did a little.

Go Trees!

Yeah we should just send the guys back to Terre Haute and maybe some of them can get home in time to spend time with families.

Really Haggerman?

Gant, RJ and Kitch have all played pretty well the last 2 games. At the end of the day - we got beat by a ranked SDSU team that played like a ranked team. They beat us in every major statistical category. We had 4 more turnovers than them - we were whistled for 7 more fouls than them - we were out rebounded by 3 - they had 4 more steals than us and lastly they shot 18, count-em 18 more free throws than us. We only lost by 7 points. Look at those numbers and tell me that we were only going to lose by 7 points? I'd say we put up a hell of a fight.

Gant has played with confidence on both ends of the floor. He made a couple bad decisions off the bounce last night - again, more of a good play by the D then a bad play by Gant. He also had a double double against Ole Miss - just the thing the jump started the "bench player" himself Manny Arop. Coming off games of 12/11 and 9/6 - I personally will take it. He keeps on getting better. Personally I'd like to see him shoo the 3 more often than he has - shooting 50% on the season at 4 for 8 - he can really shoot it.

Kitch has had a rough go of it this season - but he is one of our few bodies - here's an idea, let's support him while he is on the floor as he is likely the only option. If we had other options I'd suggest giving them a go also - we don't so lets support him while he is on the floor. Least we can do for a kid who gives 110% every time he steps on the floor. Don't like him? I can understand that. Blame the recruiting. Personally I think he has played better here these last 2 games. Made a crappy pass last game trying to do to much that got stolen but just need him to rebound and hack-a-Shaq.

RJ made some adjustments from game 1 decided to be a little more physical and not fall on the floor every play. I suspect much of the same from him - when you are undersized like he is you have to bw crafty and sometimes you gotta flop. More often than not he get's the call.

I've seen the script all too many times,
Sycamore fans throw in the towel before the game even starts. I'm not going so far - I've picked every game correctly this season for the Trees and have this as an L. Going to go ahead and stand by that pick. But will add - if RJ, Gant, Arop, Eitel and Cummings can knock down some big shots - let it fly fellas then we are both going to eat our words!!

Roll Timber! Merry Christmas! God Bless!

Keep in mind that those BIG bodies wear down easily in the heat...now whether or not ISU can turn up the thermostat on the 'Canes is another issue. Thin roster could wear down easily w/ the right cords being pulled by Lansing.

Here's another article discussing the VALUE of the Diamond Head Classic in enhancing post-season NCAA at-large consideration. While the focus is on the 'Canes, it has equal relevance to ISU & MVC:

winning 2 of 3, especially after having won game 1, would be huge, I think we're gonna win later today
