We're better looking obviously.

Doyel is usually pretty good but the average IU fan didn't get Crean fired. Overly simplistic thinking on his part.

Don't underestimate the power of PUBLIC OPINION, especially if it plays financially w/ enrollment "quality of life."

You've overthinking this, too. This came down to some deep pocketed donors believing this may be the perfect time to get a certain candidate so they opened their wallets to move on from Crean. He had 3 years left on his contract. Even for IU and their B10 media money, that isn't chump change. Glass doesn't give a shit about Joe IU or their thoughts, beliefs or perceptions.

This sounds a helluva lot different from his usual "I love Wichita" stance. I know he always has said he'll listen to anyone that calls, but the timing of Crean move is too coincidental IMO.

Douche-ich at it again...RMK's diaper changer. Hell, he couldn't cut the mustard as coach of that mid-major S. of Toledo, and he's an "expert!"

He'll be singing "Alfie" soon...

What timing are you referring to?

He also mentioned that he thinks he will have a Top 10 team next year, and his daughter will be a senior in HS. Timing couldn't be worse for Indiana if they expect to get Marshall.

Next year would have been perfect.

You must not have listened to him slam Bob Knight today. He basically said IU had not recruited well since 1993 and that he'd ask to go Knight to join him on a recruiting trip and Bob would say he had to play in another golf outing. Said that he sat on his ass all the time. You obviously don't listen to DD too often. He's not an IU homer in any fashion whatsoever.

Yup, pretty much despises Knight.

I actually really enjoy his insights and he had more winning seasons during his time then they've had in the last decade. He also frequently talks about how he wasn't willing to cheat and that is what ultimately cost him being a coach.

I don't know too many people that protect Bobby Knight or his legacy. National media pundits rip him apart. He's made sad, sick and desperate comments many times since his coaching days ended.

Typical two-sided coin...the politics of broadcasting. I've seen/heard him enough on TV to know his "inner being."

"Despises RMK?" lol

I'm alongside Fran on this one:

Dakich's only claim to fame is spelled "I-N-T-E-R-I-M Coach" over a 7-game season. :yoyo:

Gee, a coach that is pissed off at Dakich for calling out his players nonsense. No bias there, right Bankeroo? McCaffery should tread lightly... he's been stealing money from Iowa since Day 1.

And you can laugh all you want about the despises statement. It's accurate. I listed to Dakich throughout my workday and you can hear hatred in his voice when he talks about him. Sincere hatred.

IU's timing. Like I said, you don't fire a coach with 3 years left on their contract without having some inkling of a replacement. They've had to have some deep pocketed alumni working back channels because IIRC, the Illinois job actually pays better than the Indiana job.

That said, I'll defer to you on Marshall's specifics. We'll see how everything shakes out, I suppose. From what I've been reading, most people seem to want Alford anyhow. I'd take Marshall 10 times out of 10 personally but hey, what do I know?

Ya, he must really hate him...played under RMK from '81-84 and was a graduate assistant from 1985–87 and then an assistant coach at Indiana from 1987 to 1997.

His only "hate" surrounds the fact that he wasn't hired permanently after going 3-4 during his "interim" stint as IU HC.

A lot of people who were once in his corner have gradually left his corner. Not to say he doesn't still have people in the state of Indiana who support him - they obviusly do.

Which must be WHY they invited RMK to Columbus in '98 to speak at the following dedication ceremony:

In November 1998, Ohio State dedicated Fred Taylor Drive outside its new arena, the Schottenstein Center.

At the ceremony, Knight remarked how Taylor ''has been responsible for the basketball we see played in the Big Ten today -- and a lot elsewhere in the country.''

Andy Geiger, the athletic director, said at that ceremony that Taylor's players ''have always conducted themselves as gentlemen on and off the court.''

Afterward, the controversial Knight said: ''I kind of take exception to that. He didn't turn out a real gentleman in me.''
