I believe Wichita State, Creighton, Marquette, Gonzaga, Providence and several others would disagree.
Absolutely! The tailgating is awesome, and if we can just get a decent coach like Miles, then at least we can be competitive. Wonder if Trent would love to get A “Do Over”? Like take a little money more and fail at Georgia State?
Very few schools break even at football. UTA sold the same story we’re going to be a powerhouse in basketball by dropping football. What a Crock Of Shit!!

Trent got about three times as much in pay at Georgia St. (from what I remember), so more than a little.

I'm not sure ISU will become a basketball powerhouse by dropping football. To me, it's more a question of why keep it?

I think you missed my point......

My response was to the comment about not having a football team means you aren't a division one school. The schools I mentioned would prove that false. And we aren't a D1 in football. Never have been, never will be.

And saying "very few schools break even at football" as a reason to keep it isn't much of a reason. If I told you to buy a house in a neighborhood where "very few people break even" after selling it later on, would you consider that a wise use of your money?

This Institution is NOT A Business! It’s an Institute Of Higher Education. ROI is NOT a factor in this equation.

So we should burn money like it’s free, got it.

And when a coach loses year after year we should sign him to an extension, because it’s not about a return on investment, it’s about learning.

Pretty sure State has to pay back its debts and bills the same way any “business” does. And it ain’t like the school can just issue more stock or create a new product to boost revenue.

The last winning coach at ISU was Jerry Huntsman `966-1972. His record was 72-27-1, so yes we did have decent football at one time.

72-27-1 (.725) was his career college record; he came to ISU w/ a record of 29-1 (.967) while coaching the Earlham College Quakers, he went 43-24-1 (.6397) at State.

not as impressive as his Earlham record but still college HoF-worthy

ISU spent 11 seasons as an FBS program (1975-1985); Trees were 60-59-1 back in the era of a Hybrid MVC... some schools playing Div I-A and the rest Div I-AA.

agree on 'break even' being a poor reason to keep, start a football team but equating it to home ownership isn't an apt comparison. Chiefly, I'm paying the mortgage with my money - not the neighbors across the road

Let’s say we drop football. Give our basketball program a huge budget increase. Let’s say we somehow make to The Dance. Maybe win a game?
Let’s say “Oh” TCU wants to hire our coach for 4 mil. Then what? Players bolt, and we’re starting all over again. I come back like a lot of Alums for HC. This is my last post on this. Tired of the argument.

If enough people open up their wallets and donate to the football program, at least the people who want it are paying for it.

but that's not the reality -- not sure why that's difficult for some to grasp

course I see the Midwest is having a scorcher of a heat wave -- likely some folks need to get the hell OUT of the sun and into the shade

You are such A Jackass. 95% of Mid Major Colleges go through The Albatross of football. Mallory hasn’t a clue to be a head coach. He somehow thinks Screws is a good enough QB, but when the defense starts creeping up to the box, let’s run the ball. Mallory is a great man, but a clueless coach.
As usual, we need another coach.

4Q. Fact check away. Did Trent get 3 times the money at Georgia State as apposed to what ISU was paying him, or what they offered him to stay.

my bad still a good record

So.... you want to KEEP the program but spend more money (that ISU doesn't have) to buy out Mallory, then let's spend more money on a "national search for the 28th Head Coach in Tree history..." and the insanity continues... Makes a lot of sense

No clue what Ga State offered Miles to leave, he took it; did a meh job in Atlanta and was out after 4 years. at this point, it doesn't matter what miles made in The Haute or Hotlanta

Mallory is the coach, there's little chance of a dramatic change in Tree football

Enrollment at the university is down
Attendance at all athletic events is embarrassing
The athletic program can not be profitable
We need to drop a level to division 2
We are what we are
Would anyone in Terredise really even notice if we dropped down to Division 2? Most people's reactions would probably be "I thought they already were Division 2".
