Has our NIL situation improved? Isn't there a consultant firm helping with it? Just curious. Been a while since I've heard how we're doing.

As of right now, the schools cannot pay the students directly but that seems to be changing in short order with the House settlement unless they will be running that money through the conferences or a third-party.

ridiculous - the entire thing is a farce and the fact that some schools have multiple collectives? a bigger fucking joke

is this description accurate? does x-roads of champs NOT spend a nickel or even penny on MBB?

if so, WTF?!

I owe you all a really in-depth breakdown… So many moving parts. Had a meeting earlier this week / have a meeting next week I’m hosting at my office… Hold your breath - a representative from one of the IU collectives will be providing us with some guidance per a phone call I made today.

I’m going to be in a meeting w/ a few others from the collective coming up in 2 weeks with a new firm. Just a lot of things going on and it’s really difficult to unpack it all.

I will say this… not at all insignificant! The golf outing in the past and been a foundation run event - I had nothing to do w/ this but the collective took it over entirely this year. Outcome? $120k directly toward the overall collective fund - $120k we can budget for annually. Meaning on the short end we only need to raise $380k. Absolutely attainable!

I'd like to thank you all for helping support ISU Football! Go Big Blue and beat the Racers!
Some do more than others.

I would tell you to pay it forward but I don’t think you even pay full price to watch the team now, so I won’t hold my breath on the future.

What was the net income when the Foundation conducted the golf outing?
Was the income when it was a Foundation event spent in that current year or was it deposited to endowment building?
Will non-revenue sports suffer financial loss if the control of spending is outside of the Foundation & University?

Just wondering.

9X out of 10 I pay full price for football, basketball, and baseball tickets when I'm able to attend. The real question is in the somewhat rare cases where I'm able to get a ticket at a lower price than normal why wouldn't I?

It’s why you should probably sit out any discussion of the NIL collective since you are already on record as saying you will never do anything or contribute anything to help it.

You know the program is a tremendous drain on the athletic department as a whole, but as the “fan” who wants to keep the program so badly, you can’t be bothered to donate, or even pay full price for a ticket each time because “why would I?”

Yet despite being a huge “fan” of the program, and wanting coaches fired and bought out, you don’t want any of those things bad enough to actually do something to make it happen.

It shows that you don’t actually believe what you say on here that you really think the program could be strong if Mallory was gone, etc. You pay lip service to it, but let others pick up the check. It shows that even you, as a self proclaimed huge “fan” realize that Indiana State football is a giant waste of resources.

You just don’t care that it is because it’s someone else’s resources being wasted.

I obviously know that we're stuck with Mallory for the next 3 years, just like we were stuck with Lansing for 5 years. That's why I have said that Mallory is on "the Lansing plan" in the past. ISU isn't buying anyone out, no matter how bad I'd like to see it happen.

Even as awful as I think Mallory's coaching is I still buy tickets and even travel to some road games because I love the program. I certainly have a lot more time and money invested into this program than you (who has nothing invested in it) or most others on here that do nothing but sit at home and complain about the program every chance you get. I'm sure it's not too terribly hard to find extra money to donate to the school and towards NIL when you're just a one sport fan. Using your logic, if you're such a big ISU supporter then maybe you should start buying ISU football season tickets at full price to help make it less of a drain on your alma mater. Instead you just sit around and complain about the people that do buy tickets and support the program.

All good questions that I don’t have really good answers for… I’m sure the answers you got would very greatly depending on who you asked and their interest.

I’m sure people at the foundation would say those dollars leaving university control is a bad thing… As you would expect.

I don’t think if they raised $120k for example that all $120k was spent for that season - I’m sure it goes into a general basketball fund and they have access to the funds as needed. You have to keep in mind that a lot of donors will still not want to donate to the NIL - so the foundation is still going to get plenty of contributions in other ways.

I also think with the legislation that is in play now that Jason eluded too earlier in this thread - it’s quite possible that all of the NIL activities fall back under the University umbrella. I don’t think this is a good thing at all for mid majors - separate independent NIL’s in a world where NIL is a thing is probably best for schools like InState.

Noticed the school started using the hash tag #treesuprootsdown. Roots Down Collective doesn’t sound half bad.
It's 'growing' on me. (Pun intended). Provides a perfect illustration. More NIL = stronger program & a greater likelihood of sustained success. For this reason alone, I like it better than current branding.

Does it really matter what the name is?
Yes, in my opinion. Think it plays a small part in branding, attraction, community buy-in, marketing appeal, etc.

I defer to others directly connected, but I think branding is important.

If a lot of changes are currently being made, then a rebranding might make sense, but again, defer to those directly connected to the NIL efforts.

"Crossroads of Champions" has a few things going for it. 1. It is alliterative and flows off the tongue nicely. 2. It paints a visual image that puts ISU at the central point of success = the Crossroads. 3. It ties in nicely with the historic "Crossroads of America" theme long used for the intersection of the original National Road (US40) and the country's first major interior north south highway (US41).

On the down side, it is very much a Terre Haute/Vigo County oriented slogan rather than reflective of the entire state, region or university.

Great feedback. Thanks for all who have weighed in... Just wanted to see what the general consensus on here was so this was helpful.
