Did Tucker's shoulder ever quit rolling on that ISU Hulman Center surface? LOL
Someone should''ve explained to him the difference between hardwood & tartan before he dove for the ball...I didn't lose a lot of sleep over that one! It reminded me of Garrison's Kinesiology class discussion on "inertia" and opposing forces!:)

The early 90's Tucker was 6'7" 230 lbs...a lil' more beef than Haywood, who played more physical inside, but who like Haywood, had a nice perimeter shot. Wasn't Tucker left-handed? Haywood is a much better ball-handler.

I saw them both in high school. Chad, playing for his dad, was the heart and soul of those Clovers teams. Gordon had a much stronger supporting cast. Both were excellent shooters. I enjoyed watching both--would have been much nicer to watch if they had been on my side.:eek7: Lots of respect for both.

Hayward reminds me of my neighbor kid who is 16 on the JV team that shoots a million shots a day....he looks kinda like him too..I don't know how you can't like the guy..

thats my former high school chad is a legend at cloverdale !!! he was the all time leading scorer at butler for a long time till i think archey or one of the graves broke it . He then went overseas and played professionally ..... unfortunately when chad got back to the states he committed suicide in like 1994 I want to say rip chad! he is now in butlers hall of fame ! I did hear he tore up the sycamores for not getting recruited by them though So it maybe a little home town bias but I think he was a tad better than hayward

chad may have tried to tear up the sycamores....

but the hard tartan surface at hulman center got chad....he broke he shoulder diving for a loose ball in a game once....against the sycamores....and, yes, he wanted to come to isu...but the coaches at the time didn't recruit him hard enough.....supposedly......

You're right. You are biased, and that's ok. Hayward might be a marginal NBA player and Tucker was a marginal ISU player. Tucker was way too slow to play any defense at a higher level.

Some of you are remembering Tucker quite differently than me. I always wished that we had him. If he wanted to come to ISU and our staff at the time didn't recruit him I consider that just to be another major screwup by past staff.

I remember Tucker being a major pain the butt in several games.

screwup or mistake?

screwup or mistake?

...to not recruit Tucker? hell yes it was a screwup AND a mistake; i may be 'mis-remembering' ala Andy Pettitte but I don't think we were in any position to not recruit players like tucker in the greene/locke era; I think any kid who can score 2,000+ points and grab 650+ rebounds at butler (even in teh 80s) could CERTAINLY have played for Greene and Locke

easy enough we had morons for coaches here. I think he was in the schellhouse era tho . Maybe ole dave was just too damn drunk

I agree with all of you. I just don't like to look back and criticize. Hindsight recruiting is really, really easy.

I heard back then that Darin Fitzgerald was interested in us, but went to Butler because we didn't offer. He got over 2000 pts too and had 30 ft range.

fitzgerald was interested in isu....

i think he had been a high school teammate of john sherman williams.....and john pushed hard for isu to go get him......

Schellhause

When I worked at The Sporting News Dave would come in a shoot the breeze with the College basketball editors. (This was after his ISU gig) He was actually a nice guy and very regretful that his problems undermined his career. I think he would have been a good coach - he was certainly very knowledgeable.
