TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- The University of Alabama has fired an employee who played songs aimed at Auburn quarterback Cam Newton before the Iron Bowl.

University spokeswoman Debbie Lane said Monday that the part-time staffer was fired for the unauthorized songs. Take the Money and Run and Son of a Preacher Man were played while Newton and the Tigers warmed up. The NCAA has been investigating allegations that Newton's father, a pastor, solicited $180,000 from Mississippi State during recruiting.

Lane said in a statement that all music and videos played in the stadium before and during games have to be approved by a senior athletic administrator. She said the staffer -- who was not named -- didn't get those songs cleared.

LMFAO! Totally awesome.

This is fantastic. That is hilarious....and the fact that he got fired for that is outlandish. He didn't make and record the songs....he simply played songs that anyone at anytime could play....and THEY WERE PERFECTLY FAMILY FRIENDLY SONGS!! I swear, some people really need to develop a sense of humor. Everything has to be so politically correct it makes me sick!

as colin cowherd said: this is what happens when you give scooter too much control at a college football game

all of alabama's music has to be approved, just like i'm sure it does at isu or any other school. this is funny when having a few beers with the boys, but in front of 90,000 people? nothing like getting the rival fired up for a rivalry game before heading to the sec title game

I used to play Zeppelin and a few other albums over the Arena speaker system during the Summer while on Work-Study and Supv the I-M's...the "oldtimers" (Grad Students) sometimes looked up to the balcony and gave me funky looks, but no expulsion! LOL

My ISU English professor/Fulbright Scholar (JD Rollins) would've given this dude an "A" for his symbolic intent! During the Spring of '73, JD selected the album "Close to the Edge" by Yes and required students to write essays on the various songs! Now that's HEAVY shit...:)

Ironically, while teaching JHS social studies after John Lennon was killed, I did something similar (for only one day), typing the words to the song "Revolution"...playing the song in class, and discussing the various conceptual ideas of the term.

I know that Alabama has rules just like any other school in this situation...but lets be honest here. It was funny, no one was hurt by it at all. This is just ridiculous! Hilarious and ridiculous at the same time.

I get playing "Take the Money and Run" but what does "Son of a Preacher Man" have to do with Cam Newton?

a state university being tooo concerned about being PC, rather than having some fun, admittedly at the cost of an opponent. Like that never happens...how many signs have I seen in my life at other schools when ISU is playing them that has a dog pissing on a tree?? TOOOOOOOO MANY!!

They're opening a Pandora's Box with this one IMO. Absolutely BS if they think he didn't know.

Wonder if the ruling wouldn't be different if it came after the season. Looks like the NCAA is bowing to pressure to make a quick ruling and protect Auburn as a national title hopeful.

You da man, Kingfish!

Thoughts on the ND game last night? :violent:

Walker needs to find balance between being a force who fouls without thinking of the consequence, and playing soft.

In another thread, someone posted statistics that Walker had 0 rebounds at ND.

IMO...after getting two fouls in the first half....he went soft, so that he didn't get another foul...and the ride the bench....consequently...no RB's.

The first foul he commited at ND was just stupid, he almost threw the guy down to show everyone that he wouldn't be pushed around... Myles, show people that you're the man by being a rebounding machine...go for the ball dude...and forget that anyone else is around you.

IMO...This whole concern with not fouling, killed ISU in the 2nd half of that game....we had 10+ fouls in the first half.....and we stayed close..even allowing the double bonus FTs didn't kill us.

...we only had 2 fouls in the 2nd half with like 2 minutes to go in the game....and lost. we never made ND uncomfortable.....will fouling do that...no...but playing with reckless abandon and aggression will.

Saving yourself from playing hard to avoid fouling is like not going for firstbase after 10 dates with the Homecoming Queen. Okay, 5 dates.:imslow:
