Their fans are riding us off. They don't expect us to be within 30-40 points, but they will be surprised when ISU wins. They don't even know who their QB will be but they expect to contend for the Big Ten title. hahahahahah that is so funny. PSU is full of nothing but cocky fans and we are going to shut them up.

Hopefully the Penn State players look past us as well. I know for a fact our young men are gonna be ready for an upset! Think about it. Two years ago we hung with Louisville, last year we hung with Cincy....now think about how much we've improved.....how much this 2011 team is going to be improved (more game experience, older, bigger, stronger, faster, deeper, more key positions filled in with recruits, immediate impact players with 3 FBS transfers, and senior loaded....this is our year!
 
I really like the ISU wouldn't beat the women's hockey team comment. What a bunch of pompous idiots. I guess they sent a challege to our defense saying Redd couldn't be stopped. Our front seven better bow up.
 
Well, Penn State is expected to be an improved team this year (as long as they stay away from injuries and they get more consistent play from their QB (Bolden or McGloin). I really don't see us beating them. Maybe staying close in the first half. My prediction 42-17

I think ISU wins this game. No doubt in my mind. This team will be prepared and ready to win. It wouldn't surprise me if we won by more than 3 points. We have been waiting a long time for a shot at beating an BCS school and this is our chance, and I don't think ISU is gonna let this get away from them.

I like our chances against every team on the schedule...EXCEPT Penn State.

It would be one thing if we had QB Jeff Miller and the rest of the 1983 or 1984 team.

I think it's great that we are getting to play Penn State, but do you REALLY think we are going to win? I know people in here are saying we CAN win. But to say we WILL win?

If you are taking bets on this game, let me know. LOL
 
We have individual players who can compete with Penn State.It's unlikely the whole team can for 4 quarters.I think we can be close at the half but their depth and overall team strength will beat us in the end.The rest of the teams on our schedule we can play with.

Landrus, as everyone knows... If isu beats psu I will prolly pee myself from being so excited. That said, that dog don't hunt, it's kind of a crazy thought for a superfan but we will be way outmatched in the 4th quarter (when games are won). I think we can keep it very close but I think we will be wore down by their depth.

Who knows, I can recall back in the day, when a certain sycamore football team can awful close in beating a florida team.

I'm not sure about the wet and slippery game. The last one of those was Western IL last year--we are not a good mudder team, and Penn St. would run the ball at will in those conditions. Our offense, other than Brock Lough, had no chance with the wet field and conditions at WIU.

Yeah wet conditions don't open up our offense much...
 
It's a good thing our 2011 Sycamores believe they can and WILL win this game. I'll show my support by saying they WILL win. Why not? When I put on my pads I believed it. Why not now as a football alumnus? I never got why people were so afraid of being wrong....It's like people take pride in calling out the statistical obvious and playing it safe. So you said we were gonna loose and you were right....well aren't you special...no no... actually it's more like who gives a crap. You said we were gonna win and you were wrong..... Again who cares...I promise they won't take your degree back. I mean it's fine to say I think it'll be pretty tough...we'll have to play well etc, but instead why don't we throw little psychological support the team's way and believe in them. Fan support starts with us and can have a bigger impact than you think. Roll Timber!

Gents, let's be realistic here. It's just like how so many here were quick to write off Syracuse as a potential easy upset for the Sycamores.

The ISU football team will be very strong in the MVFC this year, there is no doubt, but to win this game would be nothing short of a miracle. If they do, include me in the group that would never let this win down, but let's be realistic here.

I think if they can play a respectable game and give Penn State a good first half, we can consider it a successful showing. This is one of the premier football teams in the nation and even with some question marks at QB they will unfortunately overpower this Sycamores team over the course of the game.

Exactly. Hoping for a great showing, but saying "I expect a win" and calling out anyone who doesn't agree is just pointless and stubbornly naive. It's possible to be successful in a game like this without winning.
 
First nobody expects a win..we are saying we believe they can win....so if I believe they can win I am going to make that belief spread on here starting with a good fan base and hopefully it spreads...it starts with belief...everybody knows who penn state is...who cares about picking the right team to win...get behind your team and believe in them...Yes we can be realistic and say the odds are against us...but I have seen the odds beaten and they can be beaten....nobody is willing to believe because people are scared to be wrong or seem naive...I have seen some strange things happen on the football field and it all started when a group of kids who didn't let nobody tell them who they were and how good they are suppose to be...."hey guys you are going to be good in the mvc but not penn state"...who are we to tell these kids who they are....you can only play 11 at a time...It's easy to sit back and say..."ha i'm putting my money on goliath to beat david." and then if goliath does win say..I told ya so be realistic blah blah...I am just saying...keep your doubts to yourself...these players get on here and read this stuff....the whole nation picks against them...they don't need us to...at least say you can do it to the players..
 
Everyone here is behind the team. I'll be attending the game and will be rooting for the Sycamores, but realistically.

It's a Catch-22. People on here are consistently complaining about how other fanbases fail to give ISU respect in various sports. To undersell teams like Syracuse basketball and Penn State football is doing the exact same right back to them.

And tbh, if the team needs inspiration from the fans here to win, they're lacking motivation to begin with. Having a great fan-base is always nice, but if you can't find enough pride for yourself and the guy next to you alone, you're not going to win very many games in any sport.
