Exactly. Those are the folks that inherited the wealth, grew up going to games with their pops/grandpops and likely still have the Death Penalty taste in their mouths feeling like they got robbed. Letting them walk into a power conference is not a good idea for those in it IMO... but hey, we'll see.
It would leave a bad taste in mine too if my program got shut down for what is now common practice.

Bullsh*t - SMU knew the rules, broke them, were warned and continued their rule-breaking ways. No sympathy for the ponies. They got what they deserved.

Still not convinced the ponies will suddenly be smothered in cash - where have the donors been since the mid- 80s?

Top 3 conference? I didn't realize the acc was that high. Maybe that are. I don't pay much attention to semi pro football.
It is for now only because of Clemson and Florida State.

Here's the structure starting next year with conferences in order of relevance.
Power 2: SEC, Big Ten
Other Powers: ACC, Big 12, Big East (basketball)
Group of 6: PAC 12 (if they survive in some form), MWC, AAC, Sun Belt, MAC, CUSA
Other Mid-Majors: Atlantic 10 (basketball), WCC (basketball), MVC/MVFC, SOCON, Big Sky (football), CAA (football)

Sitting on their wallets. I wouldn't have continued to dump money in when we basically were separated from our peers in the SWC and stuffed into shit conferences coming out of the death penalty.

Maybe that money won't come. But like Broker said, they've agreed to forgo media money for a decade. I don't think you do that unless you've got donors on the back end that want to make some noise.

TCU was in the same conferences, except they made the most of it and landed in the Big 12. SMU ran through coaches, allowed apathy to grow around the program. Again, if the ponies were REALLY serious about football, why did Dykes leave?

Pony Administrators are betting on the come- how often does that work in Vegas?

Time will tell.

Apparently the Big 12 considered adding Stanford and Cal, but were met with resistance from Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Texas Tech.

The end is near.

Anyone who's a fan, semi-fan or casual observer of American leisure life should read both articles

the idea that a f***ing hedge fund/private equity firm would contemplate buying a conference... ☠️ 🤬

I think it would make more sense for a “Sugar Daddy” to collect all the money from college football, then pass it out to the individual schools in the form of an allowance or to spend on “nice things” (like elite players). The business model is solid and has proved itself on inner city street corners all over the US. I’d even go so far as to mandate that the conference commissioner has to have a visible gold tooth with the conference logo engraved on it. If you’re going to do something, do it right. No half measures.

I personally nominate Fly Guy.
