[February 4, 2012] Indiana State (14-9) at Wichita State (19-4)

WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

she is referring to Carl Richard, her son, I have been quite all season, reading all of this bullshit about not only my son, but others.... you all call yourself fans, you anit no fucking fans, you all are people watching these games and think you know about the game, and make your assumptions. certain players have been ragged on all freaking year, ok, he is not having a breakout year as we all expected, but damn, WTF are you just saying those terrible things about him. I agree with my wife, I will be glad when this season is over because he has given his blood and soul to this team, not complaining for four years!!!! He also reads this column and is not happy with the comments. OK, as for your ass SSOM and others who consistenly rag on hom and other players, I merely hope you do not have kids who play sports and have tro listen to so called fans who say the things yall say about him. ITS A SAD DAY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY, and you are right to say he is D1 material and should do this and that, but shit, why say things like that. 1 /12 moths to go then I will see who you all compalin about next year. All these "SAD" seniors will be gone and all of the locals will be playing for yall, who will get the harsh wors next year. I am sad to say I am embarrased to be a sycamore fan and parent at this point!

Please know that the posters here certainly don't represent the entire Sycamore fan base. Many people greatly appreciate Carl's effort and admire his play. He's had a great career at Indiana State. He's going to reach some really impressive milestones before the season ends and he was part of a group of players that have given us our greatest success in the past decade.

Big three for Richard, but hey, we can't give him credit because he sucks. Whatever.

There are seriously times when this board pisses me off and tonight is one of them. Root for all of our players or don't at all.

That's a ridiculous comment. The comments made on here are legitimate basketball-related opinions and observations by people who want to see our team win and who have the First Amendment right to comment both positively and negatively. Perhaps you should leave the board if you think it is supposed to be a love-fest praising people for taking bad shots and giving poor efforts when they happen.

I'm not going anywhere. I have the right to my opinion as well, so long as Jason allows it. First amendment rights don't apply to privately owned message boards. If Jason wants to censor you or me, he can. I also wasn't responding directly to you or anyone, just calling out those who were ragging on Carl to excess.

As for talking about a "love-fest," I find your post amusing as I was one of the few sticking up for the critics a few weeks ago and reminding people that they should feel they have the right to be somewhat critical and to expect more, but there is a medium that needs to be found. Criticism is good, hounding and flaming, ignoring all prior success, is not.

I am sure certain people on this board will chalk this loss off to carl instead of calling it like it was Wichita was the better team tonight. But it will be over for us sooner than later.

I'm disappointed in the loss, but not devastated by it. We played a really good team on the road and got beat by 5. We will not beat a team of this caliber with 14 turnovers. Our team has got to understand that every possession is critical and we can't afford these turnovers. Glad to see Myles get on track and Jake shoot the ball better. We should win our next 3 conference games and hopefully 4 out of 5 and have a good chance to stay out of the play in game. If we do that we have as good a chance as any team of making a run in the tournament. On another note, as a father it would make me mad too to hear people bad mouthing my kid. I get frustrated during the games too, but we need to remember these are kids and not get so nasty with our comments. I know it happens on other boards too, but we should be above that.

I agree. I have never or ever will say that anyone "sucks" or worse as some on here do. I have been an ISU fan for more than 40 years and I am a two-time graduate. I want us to win, or have a chance to, every year. Fair comment is still fair game for us all.

I just wanted to remind you guys of something.

For all of the hate and flack you give Shocker fans for being bad fans and a-holes, you should check out our game thread on ShockerNet where a Sycamore fan by the name of SycamoreFanatic (he might be ISU_TREE_FAN here) came trolling in, talking all kinds of pregame and ingame smack. This coming from a fan of a team with a 5-8 record with Thursday night written all over it again. You guys like to think Shocker fans are the only bad apples. Well, that Sycamore fan didn't represent himself well there. It was not one of his finer moments. I just wanted to point this out since all the time WSU is bashed here for having bad posters. Well, it appears Sycamore fans are not alone.. Notice, no ISU bashing here from WSU fans..

Anyways, glad to get the win. I didn't realize Jake Odum could shoot 3's. He must have really been up for us. The better team won though. Good effort. And I did have some respect for Odum for giving Williams a pat on the back when he was walking off at the end of the game. Good sportsmanship on his part. Wish I could say the same for the Sycamore fan who decided to chime in on our board.

I thought the Sycamores played some really hard-nosed D, especially in the first half. I was impressed with Odum and Richard. Richard has a really, nice arching shot and looks pretty when it falls. If you give this much effort every game, I don't see how you're a Thursday team. Tough to tell though how it's all gonna end up.

Good luck and good night.

Not me, Sycamoremom. There are times, like with all our players, that I wished Carl had done some things differently than what he did, but he was hardly the cause for our defeat tonight.

The funny part about this loss is when I left work on Friday, i said in order for us to win this game we had to play perfect and they had to sloppy. Neither happened and that is why we lost.
No blame on anyone. Just the better team won.

I get your point in a sense but your credibility is basically destroyed with that username on the subject...

Just finished watching the DVR of the game this morning (I have a newborn and admittedly fell asleep once we finally got him to bed). Here are my quick thoughts on the game, and based on some of the commentary I've followed over the past few pages of this thread I'm goin to keep my comments high-level and not single out any particular players. These probably seem obvious, but:

1) WSU is just the better team. I said this after the first game, too. We could play them 10 times and maybe only win once. They've beaten us both by hitting shots from the outside and taking it to us in the paint. They are a very complete team.
2) I have no idea why Carl Hall didn't play much, but had he played the whole game we would have lost by 15+. It was when he came in briefly in the 2nd half that WSU went on their 10-0 run that changed the game. We have no answer for Hall.
3) Speaking of no answer...Stutz is nearly unstoppable right now. He's always had the size and now he's dominating the post. The refs have to notice the chicken-wing move he does on every post play, though. If he's not dipping his shoulder he's sealing off with his elbow.
4) We seem to have a pattern of playing great in the first half and letting things slip away in the second half...a complete reversal from last year. Our opponents are making second half adjustments and we're not responding accordingly.
5) We came a little unglued at te end of the game. It was a very tough environment to play in, but we have to be smarter to finish games.
6) Overall...I thought we played well enough to beat most teams in the MVC. We just happened to be playing one of the best.

It's a frustrating loss, but outside of another matchup with Creighton to finish the season, our schedule looks pretty good down the stretch. We have the ability and should be able to avoid Thursday in the tournament.

Tired of this BS

You know I have been a faithful follower of this board, became the Pres of the ofc and I'm sick and tired of all the whinny, bitchen posters who singley accuse our players of not trying and playing like crap each game win or lose. These kids go through hell for our University,City and State. Have you notice the pounding they take in the games, let alone the pratices? And the pressure they have to feel? If you went through half as they have gone through you would most likely crying like a little school girl. I know we are all disappointed of the lost but did you happen to see the guys walk off the floor last night?? All I can say is don't bitch until you walk in their shoes and SUPPORT THEM:sycamores:

I do not agree. I watch ball every night and we play as smart or smarter than most teams out there.

You know, sometimes you just have to admit that there is a talent difference between two teams.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. Not unfortunate that I'm agreeing with you, but unfortunate that the talent gap exists.

We just got beat by a team that was one player better than us last night.

Is anyone else amazed by Stutz's progression over the past four years? He wasn't much as a freshman, but he has really developed. It's obvious that Wichita places a lot of emphasis on developing players once they get there. They don't just leave them hanging in the wind. A really nice job by their staff.

You know I like this team I do not understand the implosion thats going on here people you have to understand a few things here we was not playing Rose Hulman out there we were playing a very good team that will be dancing this year. I predicted us going 7-2 in the 2nd half of confrence This game tonight was one I had as one of those losses . We played this team very well and as last year proved its hard to beat a team three times in a season .
Did we play a 100% complete game no but alot of that has to be credited to WSU . Soon very soon JP will find his shot . We have had guys stepping up every game over the past few games and hopefully this continues.
To the parents of the players you have been around sports long enough to know fans are a 2 way street they love you when your doing good and hate you when your doing bad . I dont think anyone here can say your son sucks he is a very good ballplayer and one who has represented the university and the City of Terre Haute very well. I have known a couple of the players on this team and their parents for a long time and I know their frustration in losing is the same or greater as ours the non players . But if anyone thinks that these players are going to St Louis with their heads up their asses and will not give an all out effort should pull thier heads out of their own ass. Its time to continue towards that 7-2 mark with a win over Bradley

You sound very rational. It seems some on this board think if we lose it has to be somone's fault. Talent is never the issue. I love it when they jump on trivial things like Lansing's substitutions, or a player's mistake. I'm surprised someone hasn't complained about how one of the players combs his hair.

why are post players allowed to push the defender out of the way and hook him? Show me that in the rule book. Oh, it must be on the same page as the rule of verticality.

Well, there is Odum's beard................................

lol

Nobody's with me on playing a zone, at least give it a shot for a little while? They hit one three, two other jumpers, had 40 points in the paint and 24 at the line. Back where I come from, we would do something like play a zone to make them hit shots they weren't hitting or even taking. Of all the thousands of basketball games I've seen in my many years, this game cried for a change in defense more than any of them.
