Hate the Packers, but Matthews was penalized for sacking the QB. Also, there was a graphic in one of the games I was watching yesterday that said the NFL has called more roughing the passer calls in the first two weeks than any other season so far.

they should probably have review for these calls but people are mad about review already. Or at least I only hear people complain about it.

They have to figure something out. In my Bears game against the Cards, Trubisky was roughed twice but I thought only one of them was legit. Both of them kept drives going and led to points that ultimately gave the Bears the win.

On the flip side, I'm shocked at how few times my Bears have been flagged when they're doing most of the things I've seen in other games get flagged. The inconsistency is probably what is driving the players crazy the most.

The next CBA negotiations should be interesting. If I'm a defensive player, I'm screaming from the rooftops because their positions are being minimized and that will ultimately end up affecting their pockets in the end.

what sucks for them is that the owners have made the game into such that a quality qb is needed to have any chance to win and there are about 19 guys on the planet at any given time that can do that. and the owners are aware of that

Spot on. I think this is exactly where the NFL veered off course.

The fact that backups that play 8-10 snaps make more than 90% of the roster in some cases is absolutely off kilter. Also, the whole fact that you only win with one of the elites (Brady, Rogers, etc) or when your QB is on their rookie deal and your spending is unbalanced elsewhere tells you something isn't right.

Dennis Miller summed it up on his podcast the other day, it is now to the point where the defensive player can use one elbow to touch the left teet of the QB, anything else is a penalty.

Was funny, but seems to be not far off from an accurate description.

I too hate the Packers, but that was wrong to call that on Matthews.

Christion Abercrombie, a Tennessee State football player, is currently in critical condition following a head injury. He complained of a headache and collapsed on the way to the locker room. I hope this guy can pull through. I got to watch him play against Eastern Illinois last weekend and it seemed like he was always making a play.

Just a random roughing the passer call from this past weekend:

I'd say all the current sack records are safe.

You joke but I saw a clip from the Bills/Titans game where Jerry Hughes had Mariotta sacked and essentially let him go. I think he expected an in the grasp whistle and them Mariotta then got out of the pocket and three a pass in the end zone. When they asked Hughes why he didn't take him down, he said he was scared to get a penalty as they were right outside of the red zone. LOL.

“I made an inside move and I’m underneath the quarterback at that point in time. When I go to wrap you up I’m naturally low so I’m naturally underneath you,” Hughes said, according to New York Upstate. “If I pick him up and finish him, it’s a 15-yard penalty and they might score [a touchdown] on that drive. It’s a tough situation to be in, and I’m very thankful that our secondary played lights out all day and got us off the field.”

“I spoke to the white hat and he just told me just to wrap up and drive him backwards and they’ll blow the whistle and mark his forward progress,” Hughes told New York Upstate. “Now I know for the future. I found myself in a very vulnerable position and what do you do? Do you finish the tackle or just hold onto him? Now I know.”
