Fudōtokuna: $chertz to $LU

WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

You forgot one thing i strongly believe. Schertz would have not gotten half the attention he did if Robbie had not blown up like he did. He rode the media coattail of Robbie all season. He did not make Robbie but Robbie contributed in making Schertz.

True... But then I'd have to give credit where credit is due and I still don't feel like doing that. He didn't make Robbie but he found Robbie and he knew Robbie fit his system - he found him in a time where we really didn't have much to sell other than a vision.

Being bitter is just not a great look... So I should probably be better than this! But reading articles like that just piss me off even more. People in the neighborhood or at restaurants wishing he would stay - poor bastard. You brought that on yourself - what did you expect people to do? You had to sneak off into restaurants... Like "us" wanting him fired and everything else - probably a bit of an exaggeration.

Who is this person you are all speaking of? I don't recall the name. But I do know that WE had a great run this season - the players (you know, JD, Derek, Cooper), the school, and the community.

But I just don't recognize the name you all keep typing... :ROFLMAO:

then you get a rare College Gameday story and rather than make it about the team
Awesome post,

But it's funny mention the "college gameday" story. I remember watching it live and then turning to my wife and saying something along the lines of "I thought it was going to be more about the team." I chalked it up to us just losing to Illinois State and ESPN had to pivot with the story line, but hindsight is 20/20. Funny what you notice looking back on stuff

I mean, who’s to say they didn’t decide to pivot and tell a different story since we lost, but I’ve got to believe that was the only story they had dialed up all along… some of the live stuff the set up of the team and the story may have changed, but the actual edited piece they ran that was the piece all along, and it had nothing to do with the team quite frankly. Just as the piece in the Atlantic had nothing to do with the team - other than the bit about us wanting him fired for the 10th time.

The irony is… In coaching you long for a fan base that is crazy/insane/intense to the point that being in public is a little bit of an inconvenience on your restaurant habits and public appearances. Here he is in this narrative controlling article complaining about the very thing that made this season special. You made it Terre Haute and Indiana State - a coach who wants to go big time couldn’t take the pressure and love you showed him. Absolutely hilarious.

I’ve lost all respect for the guy - I really have.

I read the article, this reporter from St. Louis Dispatch has been following Schertz, since we lost to Drake in MVC tournament. Like Schertz said in the article, the season was getting longer, and if we lost to SMU, as he said might have stayed
at ISU. He also mentions in the article after March 17th, he was talking to SLU, the AD, and donors, Chaifetz/billionaire man, and their President more than twice a day

He also says, that he spoke his wife we are going to St. :Louis, on that Wed, after we beat Utah at Hinkle.
So he made his final commitment, the day before the finals to Seton Hall. This is me just talkin, we probably lost that 7 point lead 77-70, with 2:58 left in the game. final NIT was 79-77, we probably lost the game his mind was thinking more about SLU.
.
reporter was Stu Durando St. Louis Dispatch

Yeah his mind was on $LU and the player$' mind$ were on their looming NIL deal$. 🤮🤬

The first day after the championship loss everyone is leaking on Twitter that he's gone, and the first day the transfer portal opens every single starter enters it. No appreciation whatsoever for this community and the support they received. Don't care about their scripted farewell letters, or the $¢hertz farewell that came like 3 days later after he officially left. Sadly this team's legacy will be losing two championship games and chasing the 💵💰.

Don’t care about what Schertz is doing or what was said. Let the conversations die.
As for the players, 2 are graduating in May. Don't agree with the statement made that they were thinking NIL deals and not focused on championship game in the midst of the game. Saying the players didn’t appreciate the community is absurd.

Give me a break. Anybody that was at the game against Seton Hall knows our Coach and players were 100% focused on winning that game. I get that people are upset on how things happened, but that’s just a ridiculous comment.

I know firsthand (Mill Dam) that people say uneducated, mean and flat out untrue things when they let their emotions take over.

Nothing ridiculous about it. They all had one foot out the door. I'm sure they all wanted to win the game, but they weren't fully invested in ISU or they would all still be here. At a minimum the players would have gave Matt a chance if they actually wanted to be here.

As for the "uneducated" thing, give me a break. "If the public disagrees with me, they're uneducated and mean". Sounds about right 😂.

Schertz "If we lose to SMU I'm coming back to ISU.".

ISU wins in dramatic fashion, goes on to sell out the Hulman Center in minutes the next 2 games. ISU then sells out Hinkle 2 times in a row. Donors rally to raise money never seen before for ISU basketball. ISU single handily keeps the NIT relevant with the 3 most watched games in the tournament including the highest rated game in 14 years. Probably the most media attention ever unfolding in TH. The rest of the MVC decimated by the transfer portal. Literally the guy has to hide to go out to eat he is so popular.

Schertz: "this run made me realize STL is the right decision."

And this guy is trying to sell us this story?

Us fans are not aware of coaches & players psyche. No need to assume negatives about their level of commitment in the NIT championship.

I'm grateful for last years team providing us fans with an amazing experience! I certainly understand if 18-22 y/o say 'yes' to a ton of $. Most of us would too.

Concerning our former coach, still thankful for the 3 years, but I hope that in a decade we will say that his most significant contribution to ISU was providing us Matthew Graves.

Don't worry though, he was 100% focused on the run while he was talking to the $LU AD and his billionaire buddy ¢haifetz on the phone multiple times a day. Oh and he had to hide from all of the nut job Hautians that like to hang out at the Black Angus steakhouse and his favorite sushi restaurant 😂.

Covering his tracks basically, make it make sense. Pretty hard to

Dude has been telling on himself for awhile. Ppl that lie have to put forth X10 the energy of those who tell the truth. From the beginning this has been an attempt on his part to cover the fact that he had this decision set in stone for months before actually making the move.

Sure but… Why now? Who’s he trying to fool and why?

Do the SLU people really care at this point? I don’t think they ever did that much - most of them never hesitated that he was coming. Why would they care? They got what they wanted.

So he’s writing that article from afar because some of us are still paying attention? I mean I wish the article was never posted here because otherwise I wouldn’t have seen it. I just don’t understand why they are trying to paint Indiana State fans and this town a certain way.

Lets be honest. It's for himself.

Dude fumbled the situation at every turn, knows it, and is still trying to convince himself that he isn't a media liability. All it would have took from him was honesty and dude would have left here upon a pedestal with a lot of folks wishing him the best at $LU.

"Rumors are true. I'm going to Saint Louis but I've spoken with the Angie and my new AD and they're going to let us finish this magical run. Lets go out on top!"

Instead, anyone with insider knowledge now believes he is a piece of shit and wishes him zero success moving forward. I'm sure he'll still win at a high level -- the top of college hoops is dominated with narcissistic egomaniacs but boy will it be sweet if he falls flat.
