Good straight forward article. I'm tired of hearing Lansing fall on his sword and say things will change. More than likely they're only going to change in 4 years when his contract runs out. I understand the argument of not having the money to buy him out. But, as I've said and as it's pointed out in the article the chance of him turning this around is very slim. Find the money to buy him out because you're gonna lose that much in the next 4 years putting this product on the floor. As far Hulman Center, the situation sucks and they have to find a way to get it done.

Well written article. Noticeable that Lansing's comments after bowing out in the Valley tourney are all the same talk. If you talk the talk you must walk the walk. He hasn't accomplished that after the past two years. Just a matter of time now; how much time is the only question.

I'm interested in hearing what you all want him to say?

Do you want him to say we recruited all the wrong kids the last couple years and made mistakes?! Because by doing that he essentially throws his players under the bus in and I'm not sure that sends a good message to kid you are trying to recruit.

He takes responsibility so that's never really been an issue with him.

He's not going to throw his assistance under the bus and honestly as a leader you shouldn't do that.

So what hasn't he said that you wish he would say?? I am really curious to see what some of you think.

In lieu of this situation, and the fact that my feelings for the well-being of Indiana State are closest to my heart, it's in the best interest of the program and University as a whole for me to step down and make way for a new direction."

And this is where we disagree. The greatest determinant for future outcomes are past results.

Granted we haven't been this bad since 2005 but have we really been that good in the past 10 years and then prior to 2005 that we should afford a buyout?! Really?! Because me thinks the next $200k a year coach inherits the same problems as every coach past and present. I don't think a million $ buyout puts you any closer to having a successful program. In fact, I thimk it puts you further away.

Although Lansings teams the past 2 years have been dog shit. His total body of work based on the history of the program doesn't call for drastic action. Notice I didn't say no action. Cancel his rollover and make him do something with an assistant - something like that.

Haha your asking him to walk away from $1 million plus in potential earnings...

Anyone with a more resonable thought?

At the very least, the rollover needs to stop and a shake up of staff. I realize we have our problems with money, etc. But i still think it's not a bad gig and would attract a good pool of candidates. Look at football for example. There were quite a few good applicants. We need a young up and coming coach. Then when he leaves for something better make another good hire and so on. It worked for Butler

How old GL? Does he realize the damage that will occur to his coaching career if he attempts to unsuccessfully "milk" four (4) more years from ISU? Trust me, things will get WORSE before they get better. He'd best bow out GRACEFULLY...or suffer far more severe consequences to his life as a whole. It's called "humility," and after an 11-20 season, you'd think this would be at the tip of the sinking ship right now.

The fact that we beat Butler, beat Utah State (in a hostile environment), fared well vs Iowa State and Stanford, shows me that (contrary to some beliefs on this board), we absolutely do have the D1 talent necessary to be competitive in the MVC. For whatever reason, the team (and maybe coaches) just took a big dump on the court for 2+ months. It's actually a little inexplicable. Though you can explicate all you want.

Let's see what happens next year...a shitty season, and Clink will be ready to let him go, and will prob do all he can to make that happen. A winning record, and he'll most probably have earned himself another season.

I think this is a fair and reasonable demand and as I mentioned in another thread, I believe the "no comment" can be inferred that the rollover was declined.

As for shaking up his staff, I think that is something that Clink needs to sit down with Lansing and explore. Clink may need to come up with another $20-50k for the assistant salary pool if they want to attract experienced assistants or guys with specific skill sets.

Actually, it was incorrect. We won 11 games in 2009.
And, since '81, we have won less than 11 games 14 times.
