Great article! If only ISU could integrate a few of these "growth management" principles, but not sure if Lansing will ever be capable of offering a "doctorate level" experience along the sideline:

"It also means that from a purely X's and O's perspective, Majerle has basically seen it all. And when players arrive on campus, they're basically receiving PhD level training in basketball strategy.

"I'm a pro coach," he said. "I don't run a motion offense. I run an offense for mismatches and quick-hitters and put guys in position where they can really succeed."

Was doing some background reading on GCU... Majerle is SET there. I don't see him leaving that program anytime soon. I didn't realize the Coangelos (from Phoenix Suns fame) are behind everything.

GCU basketball has been a growing story out here over the past 3-4 years. They've done a lot of things right. They have a local TV contract and their games are on a LOT (including re-plays). They built an arena that is apparently first-class (visiting NBA teams frequently work out there) but, maybe more importantly, the arena is appropriately sized (about 7K capacity). They fill the joint every night, and the crowd is close to the floor as might be seen in older facilities, and it is LOUD. The kids in the stands look like they're having a great time and their enthusiasm surely gives the 'Lopes a nice home court advantage. Watching a televised GCU game vs ASU is a night-and-day contrast - even with Bobby Hurley roaming the ASU sidelines. The GCU environment is vibrant and fun, quite apart from the mausoleum atmosphere so apparent at ISU's televised games. There are many lessons to be learned here, and it'd be great if ISU would go to school on this.
