Holy Moley ! The Indianapolis Star & respect for Indiana State in the same sentence ?

I don't know... they were trying to do a write-up about the Hoosiers, and the fact that ISU's RPI is the second highest in the state of Indiana (almost tops) probably surprised them.... so they HAD to put us in there...

Evidenced by this:
The Sycamores could arguably be ahead of the Boilers based on RPI and certainly on strength of schedule (No. 40 compared to Purdue's No. 201). But losses are to Minnesota and Boise State.

That last part should read:
But we don't really believe it, so we put Purdue ahead anyway..... and we really doubt they could beat Bulter either...

Agreed and the fact that say Top Player is Lathan means they've probably never watched the Sycamores. It's not hard to know that our top player is Odum but a really good argument could be made for Walker. I don't really care who the top player is to be honest, not like we have a bunch of talented individuals on this team anyway, we win games because we are a "team" not because we have a lot of "top players". But if your going to name a "top player" on this team I don't believe it's Lathan - I just don't.

This article was done by some intern it looks like... or an IU/PU writer. Our best win isn't Ball State, either.

Today's article in TH Star--convincing as to who is producing, making contributions, and changes.

http://tribstar.com/sports/x2082932...-sub-Lathan-leading-ISU-in-scoring-rebounding

The article was done yesterday and it's a good article. Lathan has played well, don't take my comments to suggest that he hasn't. He's actually played great for the Sycamores - as the article talks about, he's taking better shots and turning the ball over less. You could indeed argue that he's been our best player, it's a pretty easy argument to make.

Take away the turnovers (which seem to be under control) and the poor free throw shooting and Odum is hands down the best player on this team.

Walker has improved his free throw shooting and when he's able to stay out of foul trouble he's the player that's able to hold down the interior of our D and allow us to compete.

Can't take this away. This is a huge liability and he needs to fix this yesterday. It was a problem last year, too. He needs to hit these.

Yeah, we really cannot afford to have a guard, particularly the guy who is gonna be handling the ball at the end of the game, going 4 for 10 from the stripe...

Depends on how you look at it, I personally think Richard does more damage than Odum but not Lathan.

I don't think there is any doubt that many times people (media) go by who the leading scorer is when referring to a team's best player. Obviously that isn't always accurate, but being "the best" is all perception and meaningless anyway.

Absolutely! Simply NO EXCUSE for any player to hit less than 70% of their FT - NONE.

We should cut every player that doesn't shoot 70%. No excuse -- none. Even if they are 11th in the nation in apg or 36th in spg and leads the team in rebounding. That just doesn't make up for it. Cut em or at least don't put a player like that in the game. No excuse...none. lol

Where did I say cut a player?

FTs are one of the EASIEST, SIMPLEST parts of the game. Sadly, in today's game, they're not considered 'sexy' cause all they do is win games.

It's a pretty BASIC part of the game and there is no reason to NOT hit 70%.

APG is somewhat overrated as today's APGs are different than years ago, many, many staticians/scorekeepers are far more generous with the 'assist' than decades ago.

I took your words for what they were and you said...''NO EXCUSE...NONE''. Now you are backing down from that to say ''no reason'' . Now you add to it by sliding in the fact that assists are over rated. What IS the point you're making? Is his assist total inflated?

HIT YOUR :censored: FREE-THROWS!

Not just JO, EVERYBODY on the team, Free Throws are named FREE for a reason. MAKE the :censored: things

As to JO's APG, in today's game (vs. 1890s - ~1980s) the ASSIST as a statistic is over-rated; why? because today's statistician / scorekeeper is more generous with the assist than when the Big O was dominating the game.

I dont care if he shoots 10% from the line. If we didn't have JO then we wouldn't even be competing. Have you guys seen how it's turned out when he isn't handling the ball. Take away JO and we are a terrible team. Some people underestimate the importance of having a great pg. So what if we have a good scorer. He can't score if we can't get the ball down the court.
