Just another botched promotion by whomever handles those.

Marketing staff should never put the program in that situation. Getting booed, up 14 after being a team that has knocked off the #1 team in the country all because you want to shove a chicken sandwich down your gullet?

Get the fuck outta here. Bush league fans. Bush league marketing hacks. Bush fucking league all over the place.

Am I the only person who has never been to chic-fillet? It turns out there has been one in EIU's student union for a few years but thats like a 2 block walk from the closest parking lot.

It's good, but extremely overrated.

Very disappointed people were dumb enough to boo. Is that what happens when you let people in for $5? You get all the cheapskates. Didn't look like that big of a crowd though on ESPN3.

Evansville and the Pacers have similar promotions. It is standard practice today. The fans poor respect and their extreme want for freebies is the problem. I guess folks around here just can't handle something intended to be a positive. Total crap move by them.

I don't know that anyone could have honestly anticipated that this inept fan base would be so engaged at the end of games to know what the score was and what was on the line? I don't think they planned it out this way... I think once they saw the unintended result several weeks ago they should have changed something.

I mean hell, if all it takes is a free chicken sandwich to get people excited put the friggin coupon on the back of the season tickets again and publicize that if you buy season tickets you will get 14 free chicken sandwiches and you don't even have to show up for the game. At that point it might occur to them that it would probably be cheaper to just go buy a chicken sandwich...

I think some people are just Boo'ing and what not as part of the joke, I don't think they really care if they get a chicken sandwich or not - they just think it's funny. But those same people have become part of the problem. Lansing said he didn't really care and the players didn't really care. As a long time fan and supporter of this program I care. Myself and several other diehards on this forum stand up and cheer many times during the game trying to get the crowd involved. Most of the time they sit idle... Then some dumb ass queso and chicken promotion comes a long and all the sudden these people who don't give a shit about the product on the floor are invested in the outcome. That is the part that drives me crazy...

First off, Chic-Fil-A is delicious. I actually had it for breakfast today.

Anyway...the Kansas City Royals, when they were the old KC Royals we all used to love losing 90+ games every year, used to have a promotion with Krispy Kreme donuts. Any game where the Royals got 12 hits, everyone with a ticket stub got a free dozen donuts from Krispy Kreme the next day. It was just about as terrible of an idea as this chicken sandwich promotion. No matter if the team was winning or losing by 5+ runs, once the team got around 10 hits the fans would start to chant "WE WANT DONUTS...CLAP, CLAP, CLAP-CLAP-CLAP."

It was embarrassing for those loyal fans, and I'm sure embarrassing for the players who were sincerely trying their best. You absolutely can't have a promotion like that and expect any other result. Most people that attend live sporting events are dumb. Honestly. They'll yell louder when the screen tells them too, and they'll stand, sit down and clap when prompted. Giving them a reason to sarcastically boo/cheer for something is just unfathomably dumb.

Just give everyone buy-1-get-1 free coupons on the back of their ticket stub that's good after every ISU home win. You'd honestly give away about the same, or less, chicken sandwiches and everyone will still be happy.

This.

Though I do need a little help on this, I watched the game online, I didn't hear the booing....was it a constant booing, even as the players and coaches left the court? Or was it a playful booing once it was apparent the score wouldn't reach 75....and then hopefully it turned to cheers as the players/coaches left the court?

Shot clock and game clock had about a 15 second difference, we tried to score and didn't got the offensive rebound (shot clock resets) and we still tried to score and didn't. Ball went out of bounds off UNI and we took it out and held it. When the fans realized we were going to hold it - when normally you cheer on your team for being able to dribble out the clock our fans started to boo, not sure if it really matters if it was playful or not. The fact is, they should have just been cheering on the effort! Once the horn sounded it was all cheers, jubulation, Larry Legends Birthday, happiness, joy, love, rainbows everything you can think of.

the fact that UNI basically conceded at about 1 minute left kind of ended the chance of me getting a free sandwich that I wasnt coming back to TH for

I doubt serious if those "boos" originated w/ the VERY FEW $5.00 seats that were sold...probably a few students w/ the munchies :popcorn:and a short memory of WHAT just happened ringside!:stickmove: Like I mentioned earlier, the "Forest" has thinned out since last year....pink shirts (was it Breast Cancer Awareness night?) standing out like a sore thumb...others not wearing their TRUE BLUE colors. Little uniformity...and the active #'s are significantly down. I see it as simply "ROOKIE" ISU fanhood...they'll learn...the sooner the better!

I did hear that the players laughed at the boos, so it sounds like everyone understand it was in good fun. That being the case, I don't think this was that big of a deal.

That is good to know at least.

Problem I have is this is yet another thing into the pile that is an indictment of our fan base and game day experience.

I agree, Jason...the game last night was a BIG WIN. There should've been nothing but KUDOS afterwards. Yes, the Trib-Star article mentioned the "humor," but the bottom line is that it was very IMMATURE from a basketball FAN perspective. Next time, put those fans up in the "crows nest" and we'll all throw bird feed in their direction. Perfect diet for "bird brains."

Don't want to hijack, but what happened to the Forrest?

We're a couple years removed of Tommy Lynch and they're fading fast. I know there has to be some leaders within their ranks.

Get the fuck out of here with this shit people... If you didn't catch that the boos were a joke then you have no sense of humor. Last night was REALLY funny, Will Ferell funny. We blow out UNI, and a bunch of people wanna talk about how one of the funniest things I've seen in 10 years was a problem. Give me a break. And if you weren't there, don't comment on this thread, you have no context to base your post upon. Stick to talking about ball.

Will Ferell aint funny and people in Terre Haute could use some lettuce and almonds. Not chicken! Like really, I mean they should consider a plant based diet.

But truly if those same people cheering for chicken actually stood up and cheered after we came back from 12 down to take the lead then I would have been fine with it. Most of them were either A. still in the Varsity Club tipping back beverages or B. buying one of those pretzels people rave about. Like really, you will cheer for chicken but not the team?
