Can't see any reason they wouldn't approve it? They approve darn near everything else. This one actually makes sense

Thanks for posting!! This hasn't been along time coming or anything.

Honestly, this is one of the main things that brought me to SP way back when - just needed to raise awareness as to how good or track program really was and how bad our facilities really are...

The vast majority of folks on here have a pretty good grasp for the success and the importance of the Track and Cross Country programs. To be able to call Terre Haute and Indiana State home to the NCAA D1 Cross Country Nationals has helped raise that awareness and support.

Not enough can be said about Jason for being flexable enough to create a seperate forum for Track and XC and other "secondary" sports at IState. He has really helped change the way fans think of Track and XC. Also the job SP member ISUCC does covering all of the latest developments of Track and XC.

Thanks to all of SP for always backing the Track and XC programs our success is your success!!

Now let's get a first class facility built!!

Agreed! Not many schools our size can boast a fan site like this for Track and Cross Country. Thank you!!!!

As an Alumni first- and Employee second- I tread lightly and diplomatically:

It should be made crystal clear that this proposal is for an elemental track facility- ie. doesn't include plumbing for bathrooms- I won't editorialize the dichotomy of indoor plumbing vs. press boxes to host MVC championships- (we're campers in T&F) haha  ISU will host the MVC track championships in 2015.

The gap between the proposed facility and a good facility can be bridged with a targeted campaign. Having a golden Reggie Wayton plaque over a toilet out there has long been a goal of mine

Go Trees,

Thanks for your support!

We bleed blue over here!

Now maybe I'm overreacting here, and I probably am, but this is what honks me off about ISU. Just to say "We did it..." we'll waste our resources with a (bad) high school level facility instead of doing what every other institution (at least ones I'd like to emulate) does, which is having a campaign for raising money to build a truly first-class facility. Now, I've never run on the track at ISU (no one needs to see that...), and maybe it is such a craphole that any new track is an improvement. But if you're not going to put the effort into going all out and first-class, why even bother?

Perhaps this is just the tip of the iceberg for this facility, and once the state approves it it will become a much more exciting prospect. But right now, this news left me with all of the excitement of a root canal...

Did anyone read my thread in the Post #2?

I saw that when it was initially posted. However, you and I both know that ISU has this history of trying these things piecemeal, and then they never get done, at least they never get done well. That's all I'm concerned about. Do it right. I don't think anyone can argue with me that that has been a problem at ISU...

I would have assumed that there would be a fundraising phase for this, even before it was put before the state. Isn't that what the ISU Foundation is supposed to do? Or maybe I'm missing something there. They just spend money, they don't raise it?

Must be Friday, my cynicism meter is off the charts right now...:hypnotized:

Well, they've done Warn Field successfully in pieces, right?

In the past, I'd fully agree. In the last couple years, it seems to have worked. That said, they are absolutely foolish for not fundraising to finish it faster/bigger/better or what have you.

It's such a long time coming that we are just happy to see some movement. To answer your question, we have middle schools in Vigo County with as nice or nicer tracks than what Indiana State offers athletes - it's that bad.

Let me add that I 100% support fundraising to do the job right the first time - in fact I think it's really sad nothing has been done to this point, a darn shame!

I'll let you know about Warn Field when I see what it looks like for the MVC tournament next year...

Hmmm, 2500 seats, covered seating, state of the art pressbox, clubhouses...I could go on. But yes, for an ISU project, it is a very nice facility...

I would gladly write Indiana State a check for $100 right now if they were to ask. It's not much, but it's better than a kick to the groin. I know many will say that just because they don't ask doesn't mean I can't still write it, but to me that is missing the point.

Give me a chance to be involved!

Since this will represent a "centerpiece" of sort re: the ISU western horizon, here's hoping that the architects have an accent in mind that provides a thematic Wabash River blend. Isn't a football stadium also in the plans? Yes, it also better be flanked by "Sycamores."

Yes- an abandoned factory building- the old American Can Company http://images.indianahistory.org/cdm4/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=/P0129&CISOPTR=1141&CISOBOX=1&REC=2

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=401+N...oid=OiAJcsJnM7q6O39C7l6aTg&cbp=12,276.42,,0,0

It's a huge building- not sure what the plans are for it-

Kinda looks like an aborted ISU Arena-Conseco Fieldhouse...is it big enough for an indoor track? Just think, we could have the SyCANmore Invitational. Better yet, convert it into an INDOOR FB stadium. Couldn't be any worse than that piss-ant MLB baseball complex in St. Pete (Tropicana Field). Just think of the ground rules we could devise...

Isn't this the same building that formerly housed Pillsbury before the doughboy got "rolled" by some localz?:ohno:

Seriously, w/ proper "treescaping" and ambient lighting/river walkway, that area could become REAL POPULAR for coed courtship "strolls"...and memorie$ that keep ISU students attached as active life-long Alumni.

Man that building is right on the river. I knew it was close, didn't realize it was THAT close. Also, Jerseyshore is correct, that is a very large building!
