While I agree we must remain positive and move on, it certainly is a little dis-concerting to hear as many negative comments coming out. I realize how these things play out, and do take things with a grain of salt. However, with this many negatives, to quote another cliche"where there is smoke, there is fire."

Just one comment - for the most part I think everyone has been pretty positive considering the suddenness of all this. I think everyone has kept an open mind as to who should be the coach moving forward (we all are well aware of who you think should be the head coach at this point) but I have not seen an over abundance of negativity. Nonetheless your thread is appreciated.

This board (people on this board) take a bad wrap for being negative - why is that if people have a different point of view or perspective on the situation, is it viewed as negative? I just think their are a lot of people on this board that over sensitive (sure I am guilty of this sometimes as well) but for the most part this is a positive message board considering the disposition of many of our athletic programs.

Fact of the matter is you don't have many folks on here that bash the programs - they just want to see results and who can blame them for that. Let's not take a post as negativity just because someone questions or does not like the way something is being done. You can disagree with that, it's all good - but don't assume this person is negative person and obviously not a true Sycamore fan!

Ok that's all - hopefully none of this is taken the wrong way...

In regards to the "negativity" coming out about Coach Meggs, I'll just say when I was in school, I had classes with several baseball players, and they universally HATED Coach Warn. There was no dearth of feelings there. They couldn't stand the man. Maybe something about successful coaches??? Seemed odd to me at the time. Still does...

I have to agree with TJames on this. It's time to move forward on this one. After reading both positive and negative things on other threads, I will say this. Having family on that team allows you to see/hear both sides of the coin. I think Megg's expectations on the field and with the classroom work by the players proved out to be extremely positive. The number of players on the honor roll and the fact that the Sycs nearly won the MVC are the results. Does such high expectations sometimes lead to strife within a team? Yes. I will tell you that I've heard stories firsthand from this season that will give some creedence to supporting some of the negative posts I've read over the last couple of days. But, that's business between the coaches and the players and I will not repeat any of those stories here for public consumption.

I think IndyTreeFan has a good point. With as much positive stuff I've heard and read about Coach Warn in the last year (as I learn about ISU lore), it's interesting to hear the player's side of it.

indy tree...there is a difference between liking your coach...and respecting him....

i have been around athletics long enough....to know that players dont have to "like" their head coach or assistant coaches....but they should respect them in some capacity......if the respect isn't there...that's where most of the problems come up......

i was always told that you can tell how players feel about a head coach....if the players are hanging around the office, poking their heads in the door...talking to the coaches...hanging out between classes, etc.....then you have pretty good respect for your coaching staff.....

i was around when coach warn was in his prime at indiana state...he wasn't universally loved.....at the time....but they had respect for the guy.....i hear it now from his former players....why do so many former isu players from warn's era still care about the program????...because of their loyalty to coach warn and to the program.....yes, there was griping and sniping going on....but they still found a way to win......all the ncaa tournament appearances during warn's tenure bear that out.....

heck, he ripped me in public to the athletic director at the time...about how i was doing my job in sports information and the promoting of the team.....as we were traveling on a bus going to a missouri valley conference road game....i was sitting directly behind them at the time.....lol.....so i have been on that side of things...but that was bob....he'd rip you or get on you one minute...and the next minute be a great guy.....i didn't like it at the time....but you learn to deal with it.....and work through it.....i did that...and for the most part, the players did it too....

and morgan....i wasn't talking about the majority of people on here being negative.....i realize that some current baseball players may be posting here...

we all know that when a coach leaves that there's usually going to be some sort of anger....directed at the coach's way...from his former players.....so that is not surprising....

Another viewpoint: We've got several baseball players that visit this site -- and if they want to vent, I have no problems allowing them to do so. I'd imagine they don't have a lot of avenues to do this right now -- and some of them can feel pretty hurt, sad, relieved, happy, excited, what have you.

Spot on, noble Admin...thanks to see that.

I'm sure a lot of players liked coach West, but from everything I read here and elsewhere they didn't necessarily respect him, acting out and doing whatever they wanted. Interesting situation now with the baseball team.
