Kelly dropped all of his classes today and withdrew from school per his Twitter account. Sounds like he is going out West to prepare for a pro career. Hopefully it pays off for him.

I mean one would assume he could have trained here for 8 more weeks then graduated... One would have assumed that would be the case, maybe not?

backer, seriously. Chill out, he's a man. and if he thinks he has a shot at the NBA he should take his shot and who knows he could be transferring to online courses. I hope the best for him and if you dont, that's your problem.

How many weeks of class are left? I wonder if his grades were bad.

I would imagine, Jake spent most of his time resting and trying to get over "mono" instead of attending class. It was his senior season and technically he only had to academically qualify in the fall semester...so even if he wasn't going to class it wouldn't have mattered for his eligibility status. Jake kelly is really an amazing player, folks. He really didn't get a chance to shine with all the injuries and illness he went through. Seriously, don't be surprised if you see him playing in the NBA someday. God Bless You, Jake. Keep your dreams alive and give all you've got. If it all doesn't pan out....come on back and finish up your degree...you'll always be an outstanding person!!

I may have spoken too soon. If he missed classes when sick, then that would explain withdrawing early. If he improves a substantial amount, he might play some foreign ball. But NBA? That's way out there.

Sorry I gotta side with Backer on this one, finish your education young man. What if the NBA or playing overseas doesn't pan out? What if you get another career ending knee injury? Sure you can go back and get your education and it won't take you long to finish, but you were this close to being done man.

In the same respect I think we should all take into consideration 2 things. 1 being that none of us know what his grades looked like or if he had even been going to class. 2 what kind of money he has sitting in his bank account, don't forget that his mother died in a plane crash and he probably got a pretty hefty check for that. I have heard "numbers" but I won't expose those on the forum since it's hard saying if they are legit. I am sure he's pretty well off for a kid that's only 23 years old.

I feel for the kid, he's obviously gotten bad advice. Will he be required to repay the scholarship money that paid for this semester? I mean that as a serious question. He should.

I hope nothing but the best for the kid, but this isn't a classy move. How difficult would it have been to stay for another month and finish out the semester? It's not like his pro stock would have dwindled in that time.

Sad end to his collegiate career...

I think it matters a lot. It now appears that this was his plan the entire time, and chose a major he had no intention of ever having a career in (since there isn't one).

Well, I guess if he doesn't want to be qualified for a job, that's his choice.

Doesn't look good on his resume.

Effect on ISU's APR

How much does something like that affect APR? Don't want to join Purdue on that ranking.

i think a lot of people here are jumping the conclusions a little to much. we obviously don't know his situation. just because dropping out with 2 months left would be a stupid move for you doesn't mean it is a stupid move for him. yes, it doesn't look smart. but who knows he might have connections out there with a good job. it's his life he'll reap the benefits/consiquences of this decision someday. good luck to ya jake!

I agree with treeman and the other folks who have spoken with a voice of reason in this thread.

Good luck Jake!

Well, alot like other things in society. when people don't understand them, they trow as many insults at it as possible lol
