Kylie Hutson reached a deal with NIKE on Sunday at the USA Championships. She has signed a contract thru 2012 that has a third year option for NIKE if she performs well during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. This will allow her to continue to train full time and make a good push to make an international team and wear the USA uniform in the next two year. In 2011 there are two teams she could make, the World Outdoor Championships team and the Pan American Games team. In 2012 there is the World Indoor Championships team and the Olympic Games team.

Yeah this is pretty cool - thanks for posting Coach, I knew she had signed with Nike but didn't have any specifics. Anytime you are working with Nike it's a pretty exclusive deal!

Great stuff - keep up the good work!

Will she train in Oregon or is she free to train elsewhere?

You know Sage I would venture to guess that she will do most of here training here in Terre Haute with her coach Jeff Martin, that would make the most sense - I am sure she will continue to compete overseas this summer. Track and Field in the United States is over this year as far as I know. The only meets she could compete in are overseas.

Can someone help me with some details? What is the amount of the sponsorship? Is it like room and board? or is it like 100,000? Im curious how this works.....might need to find my running shoes and start training....or Ill go back to laying in the recliner napping....

I can assure you the figures are know where around 100,000 and more than room and board. Track and Field is not a real sound business investment unless you are say Bernard Lagat or a Usain Bolt or a Tyson Gay... Other than that their just aint a lot of money to be mad in Track.

With that being said the girl is 24 years old and in her prime age to compete. Nike will probably pay all of her entry fees and flights over seas, that includes room and board and meals.

Some of the meets pay appearance fees, just to load the field with athletes with impressive resumes. Nike might actually pay her to compete or pay based on performance - kind of depends.

I am sure Coach Martin knows some specifics and he may or may not be able to talk about some of those. Good question... That's the best I can do to answer it.

Thanks Morgan,

I wasnt so much wanting to be nosey about the exact figures, just ballpark. Im glad to see that with the great sacrifice that is made to be elite in any sport, that there are some companies who step up. Good for her !
