Is he the next NBA prospect? Doubtful, but has he been our best option the past 2 season? Without a doubt!

In my opinion, he hasn't been the "best" option in either season.
Jay was last year.. and I still think Isaiah is this year.
I will say that Crawford and Martin SHOULD get the majority of playing time.

And I will respectfully disagree with you in that case. Jay was not playing a true Center position for us last year if you recall and they could have easily played Josh and Jay in the lineup at the same time.

I am tired of "waiting" for Martin to develop into whatever you all thought he was going to develop into. Josh has put up better numbers than Martin across the board, I don't know why people would still rather see Martin in the game than Josh. I know Isiah play's hard and all that good stuff, not disagreeing with that. Nor do I care if they both play the same amount of time during the game. But it just gets me that people still think that Isiah is a better option than Josh. It seems so trivial and it is - but really? What does Josh have to do to get in you all's good graces?

When in Isiahs career has he knocked down the clutch baskets that Josh has this year? Josh has proved to be just as good if not better shot blocker than Martin. Like I said I don't care if they split time 50/50 fine with me, but Josh is the best option.

Play Crawford and Martin equally and as matchups/flow of the game warrant. Leave Brandt on the bench unless we are up by 50.

Josh hasn't knocked down any "clutch" shots... other than an ill advised 3ptr or two. I HATED that he took that 3pt shot in the last game honestly.

Josh has a tendency to play "outside of his game". Dribbling the ball in traffic, turning it over, stupid fouls, etc... He also has slower footwork than Isaiah on defense.

I will agree that Martin and Crawford should get nearly equal time (because the difference between the two isn't that much.. I just prefer Martin)... Brant should be used sparingly and only in certain matchups.

Disagree with everything but your last paragraph in which I agree with "nearly" everything.

You obviously didn't watch the WSU game very closely and for what it's worth Josh shoots the ball much better than Martin shoots the ball. What is hard about this? Josh out plays Isiah statistically across the board and they play minutes nearly the same amount every game. Josh gets more points, more rebounds and more blocks her game than Isiah. All while shooting 47%, what more do you want out of the big man? Not to mention Josh shoots 80% from the free throw line a whole 20% better than Isiah shoots it from the line....

What more do you want 11? Seriously, you are fighting an uphill battle on this. I mean you are trying to make your case by being negative toward Josh? I haven't even had to say anything negative about Isiah and still can make my case because in limited minutes this year Josh has played that well.

Rebounding

The most disappointing thing about all these posts is not one person mentions rebounding. IMHO, JC has been limited because he, along with Brant, are our worst rebounders. Rebounding is a hustle/effort stat. Case in point, against Bradley, he played 23 minutes and had ZERO rebounds. That is totally unacceptable. Who cares if he can dunk? He's 7 ft, he should dunk. I will give you he blocks an occasional shot. I have not seen him play in person, but I will be in Normal on Feb. 24 to watch the Trees vs the Redbirds. For now, his rebounding stats speak volumes for his play.

Question for you guys out there. Has Crawford had any double digit rebounding games in a Sycamore uniform?

Speak volumes of his play? Look at the numbers dude, he rebounds the ball statistically better than Martin and Brant both, what is so hard about that?

Well for what it's worth Josh has 3 more offensive rebounds and 11 more defensive rebounds than Josh this year and he out rebounds Brant by 4 on the offensive end and 22 on the other side.

And treefromfar you are the same person telling me I was nuts about Crawford more than a year ago so I am glad you have come back to discuss this very topic.

He is our best big mane, like it or not treefromfar... It is what it is!

You are probably right that he is our best option right now. But riddle me this. How, at 7 ft tall, do you play 23 minutes, over half the game, and not get one stinkin rebound? I mean, he is the tallest player on the floor.

I will give you kudos on your basketball knowledge no more after this observation.

Thanks for playing and thanks for joining back in on the discussion - next time look at the numbers before you start knocking a player. Josh has 14 more total rebounds than either of the other Centers on the team.

Oh yes and let me add that Isiah averaged about 2 more minutes per game than Josh last season and out rebounded him by .35 - I would suggest that given the extra 2 minutes per game that number would not be statistically significant.

Oh tree I agree and let me be clear about something for you and everyone else. I aint HIGH on Josh Crawford, all I am saying is he and Martin are for sure our best options. That dose not mean that I think either one of them plays a consistant enough Center position that they are world beaters by any stretch. They both have their moments, I have no idea how you don't get 1 rebound, my guess would be lack of effort for sure.

Look it up guys do whatever you want to do. How many stinking games do you think Isiah Freaking Martin has had 10 rebounds or more? Huh?

1 (one) time on December 19 vs. Teledo. 1 time in 80 games, don't sit here and make it look like Isiah is a much better rebounder than Josh. It's just not going to work today...

I watch every game very closely.

I'm not fighting any battle with you... other than disagreeing with an assessment of who the "best" player in the middle of our lineup is... and trying to say why I feel that way.

Take it for what it is. I'm not an authority on anything.

As long as Brant is on the bench, I'm usually happy. Therefore Crawford and Martin split the time.I also actually think Isiah does not receive enough credit, he blocks shots, runs the floor, brings a lot of energy to the floor, and I think the other guys like him on the court because he does have fun out there and show his emotions which makes it very fun to watch him play!

Riddle me this...

How many times has Isiah Martin scored over 10 points in an Indiana State uniform? And then let me know how many times this season he has scored over 10 points....

Your answers will be 13 and 0.

Even in shots that he doesn't block, he ALTERS shots for people coming in.
I have no idea if there is a shooting percentage of shots taken in the paint while Martin is in vs Crawford... MY eyes see Martin being better defensively.

However, the difference isn't all that much...

As long as it's Martin or Crawford in, I'm ok with it.... I still prefer Martin.

Well trust you me, Isiah get's enough credit on this board - people LOVE him, I am not sure why but they do. If anyone does not get enough credit it's Josh and my proof is the last hour of conversation.

Because I got 3 people now telling me that Isiah is a better option than Josh and that just amazes me. You can look at trends, career numbers and season numbers and they are all going to point to Josh being the best option. I see what you are saying eleven and I am cool with you giving your opinion, but I am determined to convince you and everyone else otherwise. lol

YOU won't convince me... Crawford will have to do it with consistently good play.

The thing that bothers me most about Isaiah's playing time is that he doesn't get enough continuous time on the floor... His minutes are always "sub" minutes... He has a short leash. Make a mistake, and the next guy is in. That's part of the reason that I keep on with him being the best option... because I'd like to see what he could do if he wasn't worried about screwing up and coming out of the game.

If he was just allowed to play...
