DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The top-seeded Indiana State Sycamores opened their run at the 2023 Discount Tire College Basketball Invitational with a 67-62 first-round win over No. 16 USC Upstate Saturday morning inside the Ocean Center. This year's CBI marks Indiana State's first postseason appearance since 2014 and first postseason win since 2001.

Another shitty thing about NIL…a lot of our loyal donors will be forced to pay our best players if we want to keep them potentially taking away from donations to the program in general.

On a positive note…the turnout at Rick’s Garage for the viewing party was fabulous. Huge crowd with a ton of momentum and excitement with the program we are building.
Working to move some things on my work schedule to make it there Monday!

It was a really impressive turnout. I was pleasantly surprised how many people showed up. Standing room only for a CBI game… Shows that there is an appetite in this town for Indiana State Basketball and a hunger for success. Can’t imagine if we were playing the NCAA Tournament what sort of a crowd we could have drawn at multiple locations?!

Also, in talking about NIL - I think we are ahead of the majority of MVC schools on it. Haven’t heard much from others on the subject

I don’t know about “ahead” I know Bradley has an NIL. Southern IL has an NIL. Northern Iowa has an NIL. What these NIL’s have been able to raise is pretty hush hush. IU for example has 3 NIL’s last I heard and at least one of them has a full time employee that solicits donors for funds. It’s big business… 😂 can’t believe I just typed that out what a world.

Indiana State is lucky to have a guy like John Newton who is running our NIL and likely doing it pro bono. From what I understand they’ve been able to raise over $130k. They have Rob York and York Chevy willing to put select athletes in a ride - not to own - just to drive. So while it’s pretty solid what they’ve been able to accomplish I’m not sure it’s less or more than most of the Valley…

If I want to go to the beach I go north these days. The Great Lakes in the summer are awesome for swimming. They look like an ocean, but the water is calmer, there's no salt, and best of all there's no sharks. Harrington Beach in Wisconsin is one of my favorite spots.

Very impressed by that Ricks Garage viewing party. I honestly thought it was an old photo from St. Louis or maybe the Odum days, when I saw that it was from today I was pleasantly surprised. Like many others on here have said; something is brewing in Terre Haute, we can all feel it.

That part was filled, but so was the old dawg leg part. So busy Ole commissioner clink had to bartend to help keep up 😆

That’s Mr. @meistro to you sir!

As much as I’m adamantly against this tournament… I’m not sure why no one has made this point to me yet but it might be the only thing that makes sense to me. Everyone has been saying “if the boys want to keep playing let them play”… that’s the weakest shit I’ve ever heard.

But you know what… If the community - the Sycamore community at-large is excited about this and wants to keep playing - will come to a viewing party by the hundreds then SSOM what’s your problem with it?!?! Everyone else seems to be in support of it - maybe you should to. Now that would have been compelling and hard to argue against.

We did the EPIC putt today and gave away 3 $100 gift cards to Ricks Garage. Guy I work with asks me yesterday you think I should go early and get us a table?? “Ummm negative we will be fine” 🤣🤣 Wrong.
