The Kleuh Level
Are all these squads playing the "motion offense?" I can just see Klueh's squads w/ Newsome & Wade piss-anting around in the 1/2 court offense, as both averaged more than 25 PPG in their 3-yr. careers.
What some of you "young pups" don't realize, the game isn't JUST about winning & losing, but STYLE...entertainment value. I'll never forget one of the NCAA tournaments during the mid-60's when Bill Mussleman brought his Ashland squad to Evansville. The most exciting part of the game was the PRE-GAME, when the Ashland students replaced the courtside team fold-up chairs with their very own high back wooden bench inscribed w/ "Ashland Eagles." Exciting? Well, compared to Musselman's stall tactics, yes. In a nutshell, Musselman's "style" made a travesty of the game. Ya, they won...30-29-type games. But did fans ENJOY the experience?
During the Klueh Era (a true time period v. the current ISU media exploitation), ISU played racehorse basketball. Ya, we'd lose 20-25% of our games, but they were ENJOYABLE to watch. When you left the Arena, you were generally FULFILLED by the effort. Think about it...and just for SSOM, here's a lil' about BILL MUSSELMAN:
