With March Madness about to tip off tomorrow, and with the board slowing down now that our season is over, figured it's a good time to get thread started that might generate some posts/traffic.

Excluding any Sycamore tournament game, what has been your all time favorite March Madness game? Not moment, game.

Mine, Kansas State v Xavier in the 2010 regional semi. Went to double OT and was just one big shot after another. It was a game that I never wanted to see end. Throw in Gus Johnson on the call and it was awesome.

I remember laying in my dorm room bed with my eyes half shut but forcing myself to watch because it was so good.

I will also always remember "dunk city" making their appearance in the tourney a few years ago, talk about an entrance! if you watch them play, it looks like they could do a repeat performance this season

Good stuff!

I've always enjoyed Tom Izzo as a coach. I vividly remember the 2000 title game (I was a Freshman in HS) and Mateen Cleaves spraining his ankle in the second half and coming back from it. Thought that was a pretty big moment and neat for him to come back into the game from that. I was young so very impressionable and watching a kid comeback limping on the floor was everything I ever wanted to represent as far as toughness. When he limps onto the floor and asks to come back in the game it gives me chills.

Not a Curry fan but thought this game for a chance to advance to the final 4 was fantastic. You expected Curry to shoot it to win it and watching him play the game now it's quite amazing that he gave up the ball with a shot to win the game. Davidson and Curry had an incredible run that year.

Lastly a Mo Val homer game from a non Valley homer. The Shox perfect season comes to an end vs. a very very under seeded Kentucky team. The talent on the floor in this game was incredible - big time players making big time plays. If you like college basketball this game was very fun to watch. Hate it the Shox lost but I don't have any hate for Coach Calapari or UK.

I've got a couple of games that really sent me from being a fan to being a HUGE college hoops fan. Was living in Las Vegas during the UNLV runs that started with Armon Gilliam and Gerald Paddio. Paddio's younger brother was actually on my 5th-6th grade basketball team. That fury rolled into the LJ, Augmon, Anderson juggernauts that could just flat out score. Went to many a game at Thomas and Mack.

By this game, I was back living in the Haute for awhile. I remember going down to Brittlebank and working on my glass game because Jamal Mashburn was a BOSS with his.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Fab 5 National Title Game where my favorite college basketball player of all time called a TO to end the game. The FAB 5 was magnificant - I wish I was old enough to recall the early 1990's and that team because I loved CWebb.

I won't lie, I had a pair of baggy Michigan shorts (was living in Seattle at the time) and really liked them. The was a golden era in Big 10 hoops with the amount of superstars they had at various programs over about a 5-7 year period.

Oh without a doubt - as a fan of the sport they were clearly not the only good thing going in college hoops at the time. Freaking super star talent! Apparently (according to Webber), had Kevin Garnett not had the option to go pro out of HS (as the first player ever drafted out of HS) he was going to Michigan. Webber would have been done and gone by that time but pretty interesting if the case.

Princeton v. UCLA 1996

Was a real low scoring game that turned a lot of people off, but was fun to watch Princeton run their "old school" offense and UCLA have no answer.

Sycamorebacker probably loved that Princeton team, I can see him watching saying, "that's the way the game is suuposed to be played!"

Just kidding with ya 'backer.

Great thread! Props!

Always fun to think back of all the great college hoops games I've watched over the years. Basketball in general has always been my favorite sport. Some people love the history of baseball etc. etc. I love me some college hoops.

But fuck the rules.

And the people who curse Lansing. 2011 was a magical run and to think I hadn't been to Arch Madness since the Menser years because our program had been so abysmal. What a run and what a fun weekend! Oh and Creighton was in the Valley back then.

Hard to pick one but I'll start with NC State over Pepperdine in 2OT in 1983... Never a huge Valvano fan but damn, that was a great game... Bryce Drew and Valpo over Ole Miss in 1998

1973 - Final game in St.Louis between UCLA & Memphis St. (MVC), while we were on Spring Break in Daytona Beach, w/ ISU center, 6'11" RICK DARNELL. Darnell had played JC ball in CA w/ Bill Walton's backup, Swen Nater.

Walton set an NCAA record, hitting 21 of 22 shots...and Darnell must've set a record for bullshit commentary on each basket!

***Note Walton's perfection of the BANKSHOT! Also note Wooden's use of the f/c press & DOUBLE LOW POST OFFENSE.

Reggie Harding (1962, 1963); Moses Malone (1974); Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins and Bill Willoughby (1975) disagree with your statement on Garnett...
Garnett was the first to NOT prove "hardship" or sit out the 1-yr beyond H.S.

For me, it's the 1993 Championship between UNC and Michigan...the infamous Webber timeout game. There have been many memorable moments in the tournament over the years, but for me that was the most memorable game. I was in love with the Fab 5 and it was just about the time in my life where I started to really taking college hoops seriously. That championship game was the first I remember really caring about and paying attention to, and it'll stick with me for a long time.

Second to that, last year's championship game was freaking amazing. Game winning shot at the buzzer...who will ever forget that one?
