ok folks, here's your chance to go out and cheer on the ISU men's and women's cross country teams this Saturday BEFORE the ISU football game.

ISU hosts Wisconsin's 7th ranked men's and unranked women's team in a RARE dual meet at the LaVern Gibson cross country course. Rose Hulman's team will also be running in the open race I believe. There are 3 races, an open race, a men's race, and a women's race. All the details are here

Dual meets are very rare in cross country anymore, so when ISU can convince a school that has won MANY Big 10 and many NCAA titles to come run a dual meet against ISU, we need to go out and show some support for these teams.

So get to Terre Haute a little early and take in the meet. As many of you know ISU also hosts the NCAA championship meet once again this year. The Lavern Gibson course is a special place. Take advantage of these opportunities to go see a meet.

Once again, the Wisconsin men's team is very good, but ISU also has a very good team and redshirt sophomore John Mascari could very well challenge for the win.

a few runners ISU are recruiting will also be at the meet, so let's show them we can support ISU cross country.

I'll be out there...hell, I'll even :wacko:be the "rabbit" for the 1st 10 yds.

Bank you really coming out?!? I will be announcing the meet so might see you.

You know a lot is made of us trying to get teams to come to Terre Haute and play us in both Hoops and Football. Well Wisconsin called Indiana State this year and bacially said, "hey no home and home series here, in fact the bus is already loaded we want to come play you at your place".

If your in the Haute for the football game Saturday why not show your true Sycamore colors?! How blue are some of you? Come out and support a team who has brought a ton of positive pub to this forum, Terre Haute and the school over the last 10 years!

Make the time to see one of the best courses in the Nation and listen to me announce. Lol

This is great, would love to see that meet. In years in which ISU hosts the NCAA championships, seems like this could be a huge selling point when we're scheduling the regular season. Oh, you're nationally ranked and the championship is in Terre Haute this year, how bout coming to ISU in a dual meet to become more familiar with the LaVern Gibson course. I feel that would be an absolutely smart thing to do as an opponent to wanna race on the course of that year's championship course during the regular season.

a couple other things to note, the weather will be significantly cooler by Saturday in Terre Haute, so racing conditions and weather for spectators will be great! Also the men's race is the last race, starting at 11:15am, so there is plenty of time to get out to the meet AND get to Memorial Stadium for tailgating before the ISU football game.

part of the reason Wisconsin is coming Saturday is because they have a lot of new runners on their team who have not run on the NCAA course yet. Wisconsin won't be at the pre-national meet in October, so they're coming to run this Saturday, it's too bad no other D-I teams could fit the meet into their schedule.

Ahhhhhh, got it. I know not of the Cross Country ins and outs, so I didn't realize there is a pre-national in October.....at the pre-national, does ISU invite many/most of the top programs?

I-net webcast?:freaked:If so, I might have to stretch out my "rabbit role" to 15 yds, although I'm concerned about the smoke interfering w/ your view @ the starting line!

Yes, I'll be there. I'm gonna stop by the Riley Wabash-Erie Canal Lock #47 on the return to TH and see how restoration progress is coming along.

Would be a real plus if our Badger contingent brought some of their German brew & cheese down to participate in the ISU FB tailgating after the meet's concluded. Damn do those people know their beer...

I'm quite sure that Indiana State didn't have an open invite for just anyone to attend this week. This was a favor from Indiana State to Wisconsin and if our athletic department was smart they would have used this to leverage a home and home or something with Wisky in hoops - that said, they probably either A didn't want to think that far outside the box or they didn't think that Wisky would take them up on it so they didn't bother!

actually ISU did try to get other D-I teams to come run, I do know this for sure, but noone could or wanted to come this weekend. The Wisconsin coach did ask ISU to put this meet on, which we are, but it will just be the two schools.

the pre-national meet in Oct. used to be THE meet to run prior to the NCAA meet, but Wisconsin now has their own invite the night before pre-nationals and many ranked teams (who would normally come to pre-nationals) now go to the Wisconsin meet.

We'll still have very good fields for the pre-national meet, but some of the higher ranked teams will run in Wisconsin.

The Sycamores will have a rare dual with Wisconsin

WZAFEJWDWMVPCHZ.20130906191721.JPG

In most team sport competitions there are two teams facing each other head to head. In cross-country this is not usually the case, as there are usually several teams at every meet with as many as 60-70 teams at the biggest races. This weekend will be a very rare exception, as the Indiana State University Cross Country team will go head to head with the University of Wisconsin in the first dual meet for the Sycamores in nearly 31 years.

Wisconsin women take the top 7 spots to destroy the ISU women today, men race in about 15 minutes. Winning time was around 18:20 as 5 women all tied

John Mascari wins, 24:31, Taylor Head is 2nd, then 6-7 Wisconsin runners, then the rest of the ISU guys.

official results when they're available.

Wisconsin wins both meets as expected

Mascari and THead looked great.

It was good to see BankShot make the meet.

Great weather. Sycamores got 3 or 4 solid runners, got a ways to go outside of those guys.

Perfect conditions...too bad Mascari didn't have any close Badgers to push him, as they were close to a full minute BEHIND him in that "cluster."

Sure hope they get that East Poplar/Hwy 42 section near the airport OPEN before National. That route from Wabash (Taberton Rd) is like going thru Hazard, KY and NOT the type of presentation a city/school wants to unfold for an NCAA NATIONAL FINAL meet. The turnoff to "Laverne Gibson" is NOT marked on Hwy 40, and it was necessary to do a 360 1/4 mile east, not a safe maneuver on a reasonably congested highway. If construction ISN'T gonna be done by the NCAA Finals, ISU had better get support from the ISP and place multiple route signs from I-70 to help precision.

Also, as I mentioned to SSOM, would be nice to have geographic markers on the course @ Gibson to announce time "splits" for runners during the meet, thus giving spectators a better feel for the race.
