I live my life by Ja Ruleisms and he has one for this:

I know where you're going with this, but hood has been used all the way back in the 20s with gangs in local neighborhoods, mainly ascribed to the nationality of the neighborhood. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the word was commonly only attributed to the black community but I don't think the roots lie there.
Are hood types, whether they be from South Central, the foothills of the Appalachians, Palermo, or Afghanistan, the only type of people who get in physical altercations? Folks of all kinds from all walks of life employed in all sectors argue and get in fights. Has nothing to do with anything hood in my opinion.

I mentioned the Paul Mills ODU situation earlier. Here's this for anyone interested.

1. Anyone care to share thoughts about the difference between Jawan's and Paul's incident? Should Mills have been suspended? This question IS NOT about race.
2. Is $40k the maximum allowable fine for the Big Ten? Should school's be allowed to pay their coach's fine like Wisconsin and Gard?
3. Why did Jawan react more physically to that particular assistant than he did to Gard? Seems odd when Jawan was mad at Gard to begin with.
4. Is there a precedent for firing college coaches in situations like these?
5. Is it now inevitable that Michigan and Wisconsin will play in the Big 10 tourney?

No, but hoodlum is one of the terms these guys have been called my entire life. Hoodlum, vandal, ruffian, thug, roughneck, goon, delinquent, punk, etc.

I'll play.

1. Difference is one used words and one threw a punch. However, yes, Mills should have been suspended because he had a lapse in judgement and it let to a physical alteration between multiple folks. Can't do it.

2. No clue. No, schools should not be allowed to pay the fines IMO. Otherwise, there is no incentive to correct the behavior. Now, if they wanted to front of the fine and then just dock their check over the year, I'd be okay with that.

3. Good question. I haven't seen that mentioned but it was definitely weird. Also found it weird he took exception when he did the same thing in the Ohio State game within the last week or so. Unless, someone from Ohio State said something to him about it in that post game line and he payed it forward.

4. Don't think so. Especially if you win. Hell, Georgia assistants were apparently fighting each other last week and all that was sent out was a statement. But thinking back to when I was a kid, a lot of times guys were revered for it. John Chaney, for example, tried to fight everyone and was absolutely beloved.

5. Cue up the Bart Scott meme -- Can't Wait!

1. Both should be suspended for the max allowable by their conference, ncaa by-laws.
2. No idea - seems low given the salary of the coaches in that conference. No, the perps should pay their own fines; Jason's scenario is an easy quick fix -- though I wonder if it's even easier ala the ncaa tourney method... Years back, when a walking pr*ck of a HC destroyed a phone, abused officials, etc and was fined by the ncaa - THAT "peculiar institution" publicly mentioned how wealthy they were, the fine would be an "easy to pay" -- the ncaa reminded that institution, the nation that ncaa fine payments are simply WITHHELD by the ncaa when the annual tourney monies are paid out to member schools.
3. he mentioned several times about "being touched" -- i'm betting it was an open palm to his chest to keep all parties separated
4. not sure - i won't lose any sleep if he is; I don't know how "beloved" john chaney was... certainly by most of his players, the temple community but his peers? not sure, DICK vitale? problably but that's Dick being DICK
5. can only hope they do

In my opinion, hoods resort to physical violence first.
(And yes, the ORU post-game altercation was hood-like behavior too),
Folks outside the hood usually look to other avenues for resolution.

Another example of hood behavior. I mean I'd expect this at the Source Awards or the Hoodies (look it up, used to be a thing and it was great!), but oh lawd not the Oscar's too!
