The Captain Level
I know there have been great improvements in the ISU football facilities, but specificially, what has changed in the last two years (i.e. lockerroom, weightroom, upkeep, etc.)? Can someone give me a quick, specific list of improvements? Thanks!

New weightroom: ~ 4 years ago
New field turf and lighting at Memorial Stadium: 2 or 3 years ago
New football offices and training room: 2 years ago
New locker room at stadium: 2 years ago
New grass practice field: this year

New butts in the seats during games: some last year, more this year.

New uniforms - not that we didn't occasionally get those before - but the black uniforms seem to have helped motivate the players. Don't do too much of the work for the reporter though. Make his lazy butt do it.

Our uni's hit an all time low with the darker blue/light blue combonation during the Lou West era. Those were so ugly!!! Come to think about it, every aspect of ISU football hit an all time low during that time. I bet those same guys that played for West would be somewhere in the .500 range with the staff we have now. I think the talent was probably there, just lack of leadership. How about some of the guys on here give us some insight into life with Lou?

It was either immediately before (think before) or after those uniforms though that we had plain uniforms for one year. Plain blue helmets and uniforms. They looked like practice jerseys. At least those blue/light blue combos were meant to look good. Those plain uniforms though were a clear indicator that those in charge of the university didn't care at all about the program. Sadly, a few years later it resulted in the losing streaks.

Those New balance Jerseys? I thought those things were pretty freaking sweet, for Trent's first year they were great.

This guy is anything but lazy. He's been great. He's planning to make a trip here soon and is very fired up about this story. He was just asking what type of changes have been made, as I teased it in my initial email.

Along those lines, does anyone know when the restaurants in the student union close on weekdays?

there is a new athletic training facility for all athletes. across the street from the tennis courts and lincoln quads.

All three examples are pretty ugly.

Monochromatic is just a bad, bad look in football.

Prefer a light colored helmet vs. dark colored.

A SIMPLE, classy looking logo vs. one that trys to 'capture' EVERYTHING about the school

Simple, classy looking jerseys; UCLA has one of the BEST looking FBall uniforms; the white AND the 'electric' blue are just great!

Use of ONLY SCHOOL colors.

Throwback jerseys are OK; "alternative" jerseys suck, they're simply a revenue generation attempt.

Alternative jerseys/uniforms should ONLY use SCHOOL colors.

I kind of liked those secod ones. Those were the ones with the logo on the sleves. I don't like blue on blue though. I like white pants and dark top at home and dark pants and white top on the road.

ISU vs Purdue

Actually I attended the Purdue -- ISU game when we wore those blue & blue uniforms (first one listed above). I like them alot and several Purdue people commented how we looked better than Purdue did.

We also scored 35 pts that day -- most ever against a Big Ten team and was probably Lou West's best game as ISU coach.

But the uniforms we have today easily look much better than anything we've ever had in my opinion.

I hated those unis but you are right about these being the best.
It does frustrate me sometimes that people get so focused on the uniforms that they don't talk about the great product this team is putting on the field. The trees would play good in salmon and brown unis if you want to get really out there.

New attitude.

I used to go to games to waste some time and see some of the guys i played with. now i expect them to win every time out. Im back to getting that nervous feeling during the game. Its the closest I think i can get to the feeling i got when i played.

I started this season not expecting the to win 11 games but each week i expect them to beat their opponent (if anyone can follow that)

Thanks for your comments niklz62. Tradition is a big part of any successful program. Hearing your comments and understanding the feeling and memories you get coming back is just another positive sign something special is happening in TH!

My favorite ISU unis from when I worked there....

1. The late 1970s version (dark blue with isu on the top of each shoulder with big white stripe on each sleeve outlined with a redish stripe). Looked a lot of like Auburn's jerseys. Pants were white with red center stripe with blue thin stripes outline.

2. The 1980s jerseys that looked like the Houston Oilers. White game jerseys and powder blue pants with the red stripe down the side outlined in white.

3. The Air Force version from the 1990s.
