Wait a minute...

I hated those unis but you are right about these being the best.
It does frustrate me sometimes that people get so focused on the uniforms that they don't talk about the great product this team is putting on the field. The trees would play good in salmon and brown unis if you want to get really out there.

:jawdrop: Are you saying that UNIFORM color DOESN"T matter?!?!?!?!?! :jawdrop:

If so, then why are non-school colors being worn???

Wasn't what I said but it isn't as important as you make it our to be. I feel like you talk about it more than the team sometimes.

Don't think people talk about uniforms that much, but I do like what we have today. People take you seriously if you look the part. I don't think we did prior to Miles arrival. He's even a fashion guru! Ha!

Yeah he shops at jcpenneys so that makes him a man of high fashion. ;)

Just for contexts sake. I am not "assaulting" 4q just the thought process here.

I think uniform color, style is irrelavant to how the team plays at large.

Do some players take pride in their uniform? Absolutely.

Would the Colts play BETTER because they started wearing black jerseys?!?!

Hell no -- They'd play as good (or as poorly) as their talent and coaching level.

my beef with the unis is:

1. Black is not a school color, never has been; can't thing of why it should be.
2. Look at the many of the NFL and MLB teams; the Colts have been wearing the same general design/color f-o-r-e-v-e-r. The Yankees have been wearing pinstripes in 1915 and have worn the current version (color, stripe width -- pinstripes with the NY since 1936!)

So, I wish WE would settle on ONE shade of BLUE, a classy uniform design and KEEP IT.

As to spending too much time on unis and not the team; the Trees are 3-1; they thumped western KY; they're undefeated in the confernece AND they beat an old rival --- I have no beefs with the team!

I've followed them since graduation; in comparing them to the 2005-2009 era; how can ANYONE complain about the 2011 Trees?

I am not asking to take "beef" I am just saying that you tend to talk about the colors of some shirts more than the team.

I agree; I'm doing so because I LIKE the team!

The Seniors have earned spots in many, many folks hearts and minds; the same with Coach Miles.

They are proving that if given the TOOLS and a 'level playing field;' that ISU CAN have a successful football team.

I hope Coach Miles et al; sprint PAST the Raetz era for success. I hope that 8-3 is considered an off year and 6-5 a BAD year!

I agree. Let's hope the days of accepting mediocrity from our athletic teams are over. We should expect the playoffs and NCAA tournament from all of our teams. We're getting there, it's closer to being reality than ever before, and I LOVE IT!!! :wordyo:

Think of the black uniforms as a reward to those Seniors and Juniors who have earned a spot in your heart. They took the brunt of the demeaning crap that went on on this board, in their classrooms, and even on the field with the removal of the Sycamore logo from the helmet after the UNI game in '09. THEY were excited and felt proud that all of their hard work and improved play EARNED them the uniforms, so it doesn't really matter what any of us non-players on this board think about what they wear. I'm extremely proud of them no matter what they wear.

And POW! And see, 4Q gets right back up, like nuttin' happened. Ha!

I really like reading these posts where fellow SP bloggers smack talk each other....especially when no one breaks up with the other blogger, and no one asks for their class ring back! ROTFLMAO!!!

The entertainment value is priceless. It also makes me wonder why anyone would get so annoyed and PO'd with another SP blogger, that they would end up blocking them.

? I wasn't PO'ed...I was stating an opinion on 4Qs stance on uniforms. I feel like people take things on here as "every time I disagree with someone it's a fight."
You can respectfully disagree and say it without it being a "fight".

This is the uniform that 51 was talking about. Check the pic of Berman. Still can't find the ones I'm talking about. Not sure there are any pics of them left on the web. They were so bland.

We had this, and then we had nothing:

Not about uniforms but a sign of how far the program has come, see the homecoming attendence in that game story? 3,700. Fast forward to 2011 and getting twice that would be a disappointment.

Funny, when I read that, that was my exact sentiment. I remember leaving for the Bally before the half of that game in 03. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I was also at the Homecoming game that broke the attendance record with something like 19,500.

I know the ones you are thinking of. They would have been either the 1998 season or the 1999 season (I think the 1998 season). I remember we played at Kansas State that year and was watching the news for the highlights (weren't many, think we lost 66-0) but was shocked to see our uni's. We wore plain blue pants, blue tops with only white numbers. No stripes, names, nothing. Our helmets were blue (no logo, stripe, etc) and had a white facemask. That was it. They looked like something that would be a practice jersey. I can't imagine how low the players must have felt putting those on. They were horrible. High school teams had nicer uniforms than us that year.

Dang, I would love to see us take our attendance to the next level. Rowdiness, Youngstown state fans that were here, were absolutely annoying in every sense of the word. Damn rowdy.

If you would get a chance to talk to Andi Myers, our former torchbearer and AD for just women's athletics at ISU, she would tell you that WE NEVER had that many people ever, at an ISU football game. At least that is what she said to me as she was laughing in my face, about 7 years ago, about this very same subject. She said those alleged attendance figures for football games, never happened.

Does anyone know if she is still helping the university with its athletic accreditation process? We could email her and ask, since she is such an authority and know-it-all on everything.....probably got that big head from being the girls basketball coach at Hutsonville, Ill.

Ah yes .... Andi

I had the same experience with her regarding basketball attendance during Bird's years ..........I've been one of the first to be critical of how long it took Terre Haute and ISU to understand what they had back in the late 1970's. Attendance of 7000 - 8000 per game in some of those early games was a disgrace.
But in communicating with Andi about BB attendance during her "reign" she told me ISU never had a sellout, even when Larry was there. Of course I have vivid memories of some of those top games, especially during Larry's senior year -- like people hanging all over each other and standing all around the concourse and at the top of Hulman Center at his last home game in the MVC tournament -- an announced crowd of 10,500 + (which I'd put at around 11,000 actually).
But Andi was certain that never actually happened.

By the way, I was at the Homecoming game when those 19,000 people were there -- trust me -- they were there.
Lets cram them into Memorial Stadium in a couple of weeks (make'em put up some temporary bleachers like they used to do) at Homecoming -- see if we can get to 13,000 + or so. Then lets get this new stadium thing on the move !

:sycamores:

How dare you speak of She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named!

We have to win Saturday and play well at UNI, and we may very well need those extra stands brought in for Homecoming.
