News like this (especially as a member of the OFC) who remembers every detail of the race to space, including watching Sputnik fly in the Western sky at night at the Drive-In, in the Summer of 58 and 1959...and maybe longer is sobering.

GOD BLESS AN AMERICAN HEROE, AND AN AMERICAN ICON, LIKE NEIL ARMSTRONG.

Our country, will never be the same without him.

Man do I hate to see stuff like this. Armstrong was just a great american and a great Naval Aviator (yes he was a Navy Pilot)...It's always sad to see people you idolize go like this but he is in a better place

A truly great American! I loved the interview that I saw today: "Is it true that you went to the office after the accident with the lunar module? Yes, there was work I needed to get done. But you almost died, how could you do that? But I didn't, and there were things that needed to get done."

I taped it to make my kids watch it--that is just something that is lost in the current generation. The lunar landing was one of the few events where, decades later, you remember where you were when the famous words were said. God speed, Mr. Armstrong!

Sputnik? Man, you are old...:geeza2:

On 2nd thought, perhaps it's time for another "Cold War" to prompt American ingenuity? We've sorta lost our "edge" over the past 1/2 century...
