TreeTop approves....if it's a bridge and not a tunnel.

What's the hangup w/ a tunnel? Might connect to a few of those underground mine shafts, thus opening new dimensions of development for investors. Recall in the Atlanta Underground ,"Below the Hatch," a neat bar where allegedly, crocodiles bred in "captivity, which they claimed was tied to the "serene ambiance" of the atmosphere! See:

They just need to make an intersection ("double teardrop roundabout") like they have along the Keystone corridor in Carmel with a roundabout while the road runs under it. My guess is the issue would be lost parking and the businesses right along that street but IMO this is the way to go.

That would probably take out more than just a gas station though. Probably take out the bowling ally, ISU Federal Credit Union and perhaps auto parts store just to get a project of that magnitude done. Would look nice - but doubt it ever happens like that that. Going to be a simple pedestrian overpass. Will be a much cheaper solution to the problem.

That'll be the day when INDOT pumps $1/4B into a Hwy 41 Terre Haute intersection...

They have smaller ones that may be feasible. This is another one of those things that they should do it for the long term, not to just slap a pedestrian walkway over it.

In Atlanta they have the 5th St Pedestrian Plaza Bridge which connects the east & west campus' of Georgia Tech. It's both vehicular as well as pedestrian and spans I75/85. Granted it's a much larger than is needed for US41, but the concept is the same. The double teardrop (dogbone) roundabout pictured over Keystone might work if with pedestrian traffic. Roundabouts do require more space than a regular intersection.

If the stadium will be built on top of second street then Chestnut does not need to cross US 41. A tunnel like the one at Illinois State would be great either way. I know someone on here said no tunnel but that one is really nice. I think we play them over there in football this year. Go check it out. It is under the intersection at the south east corner of the stadium.
