They both totally ignored the MVFC. :krazy:

So shocking I can't belive they didn't take the time to put some unfounded pre-season rankings togeather... I havn't seen either one but were other D1 AA conferences included? If not then whats the gripe?

And even if they did its further fuels my hate for any kind of preaeason ranking. They mean/prove absolutly nothing and will NEVER hold 100%true to form. Is it nice to read the Sycamore name? As always yes it is - at the end of the day I don't personally care what those polls say though. More times than not I feel like a poll won't meet my expectation for what I think the team is capable of anyway...

Well, I guess the teams listed in the top 10 or 15 have earned the preseason rankings through their consistent performance. I agree that preseason rankings are basically meaningless, other than as a demonstration that most of the teams listed have developed pretty consistently high performance standards. Until we beat the teams like SIU, UNI, NDSU, you can't expect to be ranked. Let's finish the season in the top 15-20 or higher; that will earn some love.

Meaningless?

Pre-season rankings tend to have some geographical balance, even in FCS. The teams in the listings have been consistent winners. I have no argument with the teams listed. The order will be shuffled over time as the margin for error is very small.

But the reality is that the MVFC has not been a league showing quality depth the past few seasons. Leagues like the CAA dominate OOC opponents, win games against DIA opponents and play tough competitive games in the league so that is why 5-8 CAA teams are in the rankings each year at the end of the year. Only 5 in pre-season, but more will appear.

Why would ranking EWU #1 be pulling teams out of a hat? They won the national title last season in Dallas. I was there and I still don't know how they executed that comeback against Delaware after trailing 19-0 in the third quarter. I was rooting for the Blue Hens but EWU was a deserving winner.

Until the Valley starts beating quality OOC opponents and advances multiple teams into the FCS playoffs deeper rounds, then its fans have no right to complain. Prove it on the field.

There are a couple of teams in that boat--NDSU has beaten quality opponents, and some could say got homered out of an appearance in the FCS championship game. Western won an away game last year. I had no beef with the rankings, but I thought some players could have been recognized. Like I said, I hope we finish the year ranked--the preseason stuff is nice to somewhat validate that you're making progress, but, yes, is really meaningless until you do something.

Lindy's MVFC Predictions

1. Northern Iowa
2. North Dakota State
3. Southern Illinois
4. Western Illinois
5. STATE
6. Illinois State
7. South Dakota State
8. Youngstown State
9. Missouri State

They cite the NIU/NoDakSt game as one of "The Big Ones"

B Boemer and M McElroy from SIU are on their pre-season All-FCS Team (1st)
B Boothby of NIU is on their All-FCS (2nd) Team

Picking T. Rennie of NIU and M McElroy of SIU as their offensive and defensive MVPs of the MVFC

Haven't found a Sporting News annual yet -- they usually have much better coverage of FCS (and D2 and D3) than Athlon or Lindy

I think ISU is on everyones radar but they are reluctant to pick until you guys can prove it on the field a couple more times. I think if you come out and win some games you will climb faster than others.

TJ, I think you nailed it on the head. After a decade-plus of sucking air (I'm being diplomatic there), no one is going to want to give us any props until we show that last year wasn't a fluke. We'll have to prove it on the field, which is the only thing that counts anyway!!!
