alright i'm gonna get on my soap box here. can everyone on this forum quit calling the morehead state meaningless. yes, i do realize that some games in sports are more meaningful than other, and yes i do realize that this game doesn't mean that much as far as standings, getting into the tournament, etc. but holy crap people, all i read about on this forum is how we don't get any respect, how we can't draw fans, how the students arent excited, why are facilities have been ignored. well your answer folks is win every game. you want people to come to games, don't post all over the internet it's meaningless. you want respect from other programs, beat the crap out of them. you want improvements to facilities, win every time you were that sycamore uniform. how would you feel if you gave everything you got in practice, get back to the dorm, get on the internet and see a bunch of people saying how worthless your next game is? but hey, maybe the game is meaningless to you...after all, your not the one busting your butt day in and day out.

I agree. This game is one we need in the win column. Morehead is a quality team. We need to get every quality win we can.....

I mentioned its meaningless in such a way that if we had to choose between Odum playing this game not completely healty as opposed to taking caution with him if he is on the cusp of npot being 100 percent, then this game is meaningless, because the playoff games are more important. I think some people feel the same as I do. And as I said before, I want to win them all.

Go Putnam !!

I think it's important to not just win this game...as in fighting or in any sport, intimidiation is a major factor...if we go into the tournament on a big winning streak do you thinK MSU, or Wichita State will be excited to play the trees? hell to the no...We need to win this game, shutdown Faried...and make a statement...I know it sounds cliche, but it's so true its not even funny...this faried guy has been on Sportscenter several times...When JT Durley sees we put Faried down to size you think he will be full of confidence when facing the trees? Doubtful...In fighting, Intimidation is always the greatest tool of the underdog, yes the underdog...We arent the favorite, lets not kid ourselves but in every game, fight or competition, a great deal of it is decided before the ball is tipped...

Let me clear something up, I don't recall anyone calling this game meaningless but myself. I'm probably not going to come off that stance to much so you all can have at it - I am likely not going to feed the fire today. Thanks anyways.

However since this is a discussion board and you guys will need something to discuss all day consider this. I will take a similar argument as Bill took. It's not like the Sycamores have a perfect season riding on this game (ala Indianapolis Colts resting players during so called meaningless games), it has no implications on how the rest of this season will play out.

Does anyone buy into having fresh legs? Now not for a minute am I going to suggest that we should sit anyone out. You guys know I am a track guy and it's common practice in track and cross country to "rest" your guns before conference tournaments. Every year Eastern has an indoor track meet the Friday before MVC and usually if you had a conference spot wrapped up you sat this meet out because it was viewed as meaningless. So you rest in hopes that come MVC Championships you have fresher legs.

These next 2 MVC games will go a long way in determining how deep of a run the Sycamores will make in St. Louis. If you can finish out MVC play winning out that is very important, more important than winning on Saturday (everyone would agree with that). It's still possible that the Sycamores avoid the 1 seed in St. Louis until the Championship game and I think that's always a good thing.

So let's see how it plays out - I will be at the game and the last thing on my mind will be this conversation about meaningless or not. It's a basketball game and once you step on the floor you want your team to win - no doubt about that. If you ask if I am excited about Saturday, not really... lol

This team still needs more experience. Might sound crazy to some, but its true. Only recently have some guys found their role within the team. I think it's important to play well and be competitive in this game, even if the W doesn't count for much at this point. Pride always counts for quite a bit.

Also, we're going up against a team that has won 20 games and it's at our place. I think it's a good test and something to be excited about.

Another also, if we win out - including beating this solid Morehead State team - does it not improve our chances of making the NIT? We'd probably need a deep conference tournament run as well, but ...

It won't hurt our chances; especially if we have a big home crowd.

Win out and we play Friday night (in St Louis) at 18-12. (12-6 MVC, 6-6 non-conference)

So, if we finish on an 8-1 run at the end of the season; finish at 20-13, 3rd in MVC & MVC Tourney Runner-upm; would we be a good NIT team??

I think so

Depends on our RPI. Last year's 8 seeds finished with 19-23 wins. With the NCAA bumping to 68 teams this year, it's likely we could get into the NIT if we won out and then picked up a win in the MVC tournament.

Or we could just win the whole damn thing and go to the big dance. I'd be cool with that, too.

I'm on the fence with the NCAA's new 68 team tourney; I'll become a believer when I see the #3 teams from the MVC, Colonial and the Atl 10 selected over the #7-9 teams from the sec, big ten and acc.

Obviously, my first choice is to WIN Arch Madness (again) and not worry about the NIT, CBI or CIT this season.

Yes, but we all know that likely won't happen. And those 6-9 teams from the power conferences are usually the ones the MVC teams are beating to reach the Sweet 16. Those big school teams go into the tournament thinking it's a given for them to be there, and it shows in their poor effort and performance.

I was reading in the sports last week that michigan, who barely beat iu, feels they should be ncaa bound even with a below 500 conf. record.

Man,,, that ain't right

ofc
