Because of Wrigley’s right field wall, only one endzone will be used when Northwestern plays Illinois at the Friendly Confines tomorrow....this should be kinda interesting...what happens on a INT?? lol

Back in the day, the Bears used to play at Wrigley...I don't what configuration they used back then, but if it was different than what they're using tomorrow...why didn't they just use that configuration from way back when.

What if there is an interception...can it be returned for a touchdown or is the ball dead where it is caught????

their real worry was that a catch in the endzone where a guy gets leveled into the wall...I guess in theory they could return it to where the endzone should be...

Thats the million dollar question greenwell..lol...You would have thought they would have knowen this would be an issue before scheduling the game.

There are 2 endzones on the field, one just ends exactly where the wall begins. If a fumble or INT is returned then it will count as normal. On a standard drive though, all movement goes to one endzone. The goalposts are actually attached to the wall on the endzone that they are no longer using. It looks very cool on the computer.

No million dollar question, no smoking guns people... the security concern comes when throwing into that end zone. How many corner fades have you watched the player go through the back of the end zone? You don't have that issue with a pick six.

Yeah I just didn't understand if there was physically an endzone or not...
Yes, there are two end zones. The problem lies in that one end zone has just a 5 foot buffer before the wall and in the direct center there is none.

In a statement issued by the Big Ten, the following changes will be made:

• All offensive plays will head toward the west end zone, including all extra points and all overtime possessions.

• All kickoffs will be kicked toward the east end zone.

• After every change of possession, the ball will be repositioned for the offense to head toward the west end zone.

• As a result of a coin toss held by the conference office Friday morning, Illinois will occupy the west team bench in the first half and Northwestern will occupy the west team bench in the second half and for all overtime periods.

The change that will require both teams to move in the same direction on offense is going to make for one odd looking Illinois-Northwestern game.

Not gonna lie this just sounds really dumb to me. Why not just play at Soldier Field?
Because before Solider Field, football was played here. It's historic and this weekend this is also happening at the new Yankees Stadium with Notre Dame and Army. I think it's pretty cool.

I think it is great! If I could go to any game this weekend I would be in the Bronx watching the Irish and Army...How cool is that?!! I can't stand IL or Northwestern, but it would be pretty cool to watch this game in person from the bleachers at Wrigley!!

Historically this is really cool! Sure they have to change a few things up...so what! As a fan of soccer, soccer has to change things up all the time in terms of size of field, etc. because a soccer field is sooo much bigger than a football field anyway, this is no different. So they have to change sides a few times...so what!

I used to go to Bears games at Wrigley as a kid. The field was oriented from the left field corner to the right field corner--I'm not sure why they didn't use that orientation. The end zones were still close. I'm sure the football teams will be real cozy in the clubhouses at Wrigley. This is a good idea in the wrong place--they should just play at Soldier Field. With the TV timeouts, and changing ends of the field for safety purposes...not a great experience. I guess the college players are worth more these days than Butkus, Sayers, O'B were in the day.

Me too... if you can't play the game the way it's supposed to be played... it shouldn't be played there.

This is like saying that you don't have enough players, so right-field is "closed".

did they used to be able to fit a field there and then reconfigured it and added some seats?

just a thought.

Terrible idea IMO.

Nope. You've got to remember that when football was played there, there were few passes. It was pretty much run, run, run.
