Oregon State QB Ryan Katz said Sunday night he will transfer.

Katz started for the Beavers last season and began this year as the starter but was replaced by freshman Sean Mannion after halftime of the first game against Sacramento State.

"After discussing this issue with my family I have decided to seek other academic and athletic opportunities," Katz said in a statement. "I have been granted my release from Oregon State and I plan to transfer as a graduate student with one year of eligibility remaining. I have considered Corvallis home for the past four years and it's been filled with many experiences and life lessons. I want to thank all my supporters and I look forward to writing the next chapter of my story."

Katz, a junior, played sparingly the following week at Wisconsin but did not attempt a pass in the season's final 10 games.

In 2010, Katz completed 60 percent of his passes for 2401 yards and 17 touchdowns.

So what are the rules on this? Could we just call this guy and ask if he's interested? Does his release change that? (I'm assuming if he wasn't released no one could call, but since he has been released he's a free agent; right or not?)

Seeing that he is stating that he is transfering as a Graduate Student...makes me beleive he is looking to stay at the FBS level. He will be eligible at a FBS school that offers a graduate program that Oregon State doesn't offer. That is how i see it...could be wrong.

This is correct.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Probably not much of a chance he'd come to State, but all indications are that former five star at ND Dayne Crist will be looking to play somewhere else next season. Since he will be a graduate in December he is eligibe to play immediately at an FBS school so he will probably go that route. But just thought I'd throw this out there. He's a california kid so alot of folks on the ND boards think he will most likely be headed west, but we shall see. I guess you never know.

There is a former Illinois QB (Chandler Whitmer) who was pretty highly rated coming out of high school who is also looking for a home. He had a very good year at Butler Community College, and is looking for a new school (although probably at the BCS level, but more importantly probably to play). Also worth a call I feel.

Well according to Twitter and a few ND message boards Dayne Crist is a done deal to Wisconsin. Nothing official, maybe just message board BS. Wow they had Russell Wilson this year and Dayne Crist next year if true....Texas was in the mix as well. Florida seemed like a destination to me considering he coulld reunite with Weis and knows the system.
