I like seeing the involvement from the Pacers and the additional press this will generate. Good for ISU and Larry.

yup it will be great press for both ISU and Larry. It will also give our Indy alumni a chance a look at the statue and connect with their school. All around a good move by our athletic department.

There is an alumni event in the works. When I have more info, I'll post it.

The best PR is free PR. Having Larry Bird and the audience this will attract in attendance will get the Indiana State name recognized across the nation once again. There might even one kid with superstar potential that wants the Larry Bird scholarship so badly as to turn dawn a high major school to come to ISU. we can only hope.

Only problem is that this is about 15 years too late...this should have happened long ago! EXTREMELY HAPPY IT IS HAPPENING NOW! But lets be honest...he deserved this long ago.

Hopefully people decide to let the negative side of that go and be glad its happening now, as the saying goes better late than never.

When supporting alums continue to labor to the point home that it should have happened years ago that is all that will ever be said about it!

Let's be honest, move the freak on from the past and just be glad it's getting done! Why is that never enough...

This is the hand we have been dealt. We must move on and get everything possible from it.

I am actually glad it wasn't done sooner, because I would not have been able to be there in person. If it would have happened, say in 1989, I would have been in middle school and I don't think my mommy and daddy would have brought me.

There is a always a bright side! (you just have to search for it sometimes)

Saw where ISU has started with the statue project while we were at homecoming. The concrete was torn out and a form for the statue was in place. I then googled and found the plans for the concrete work and landscaping. We already knew that the statue was being paid for at a cost of $150,000. I was surprised that ISU is paying $146,000 for landscape and concrete improvements in front of Hulman Center. It should be nice.

Geeesh...talk about milking the cow! I'd like to see how that $146k was apportioned. Do you have the contractor(s) involved? Sounds like a few K went into back pockets (typical of govt contracts). I drove past the area the other day & saw the circular pedestal...nothing spectacular.
