The Odum Level
The Pacers beat the Nets tonight. They're now 7-0, a franchise record to start the season and the only undefeated team left. All of the media talk before the season was about the Bulls and Nets being the two biggest challengers to the Heat. The national media somehow wrote off the Pacers even after their impressive performance in the eastern conference finals last year. Yes, it's only November, but the Pacers look like a pretty serious contender. They're young, talented and hungry. George has become a legit superstar, Hibbert is a true monster in the middle, Stephenson is picking up where he left off last season and their bench is better. Pretty exciting!

Either

A. we were not watching the same coverage or

B. Your just flat out wrong

I'm going to with B, the Pacers got a ton of love this off season. Were not picked by many to win the East, but were almost always the number 2 pick. But good try.

Wouldn't have been shoocking had the done that though, seeing as how Indy is a much smaller market. I just totally disagree that the media wrote the Pacers off, couldn't be further from the truth. I'm sure it sounded good in your head, in fact I'm sure you convinced yourself a long time ago that the media just didn't think the Pacers wete that good but I'm here to tell you that's just really not the case.

I felt like someone in the offseason said that the Pacers offered advice to Odum but I do not remember and hell I could have made it up in my dreams or something. Anyone else recall such a thing?

I saw several ESPN and NBA TV season previews where all of the focus was on the Bulls with Rose back and the Nets with all of their additions and the Pacers weren't even mentioned, mostly a biased toward larger media markets, but whatever. The Pacers don't have any big name stars (Hibbert and George aren't names most people know yet), so that also counts against them.

You are so wrong it's hillarious, actually being a pacers fan who has followed them consistently throughout even the rough years. People aren't talking about the pacers, they were talking about the Nets, Heat, bulls, Knicks (average picked seed was 4) no one expected us to do what we did last year. Heard alot "bulls with rose are better, nets are better and Knicks add defensive toughness with Metta world peace. How did the Pacers get better

Tim Legler of ESPN always gives the Pacers some love. He picked us to win the NBA Finals while he was on First Take. I think this Pacers team has it all to win the title, but it's still really early. They have to stay healthy and stay hungry. They're going to lose some games eventually, but it's fun while it lasts.

Legs is one of the best in the Biz, so he clearly knows what's up. The jon Barry's, the shaqs, skip bayless, Stephen a smith, Michael wilbon, Chris Broussard, magic Johnson were all saying the pacers were going to. Have a let down and Bruce Bowen went as far to say that the pacers "feel entitled"

Marc Stine gives Pacers love here - also picks Pacers to win it all. In fact out of 28 ESPN.com writers here was the final tally Miami Heat (22 votes), Indiana Pacers (2 votes), San Antonio Spurs (2 votes), Brooklyn Nets (1 vote), Chicago Bulls (1 vote)

http://espn.go.com/blog/marc-stein/post/_/id/82/eight-fearless-predictions-for-2013-14

Dicky V also makes mention of all of the following, doesn't slight the Pacers in the least.

http://espn.go.com/espn/dickvitale/story/_/id/9902555/vitale-nba-predictions

I don't know - call me old fashion but I don't pay a lot of attention to audio video media for the reason of some of the names announced above. So if "widespread" doubt was real then what you all were seeing on TV was much different from the stuff I was reading - I read multiple sources of information and I just didn't get the vibe that the Pacers were not going to challenge the Heat in the East.

In fact, the first doubt I saw was expressed in BENT's post - to say I was surprised by that would be an understatement and it honestly further validates why I don't pay attention to the TV. It's all about marketing and has very little substance.

Reading (mostly ESPN) there were a few that were solidly behind the pacers. I don't see Dickie v as a solid source when it comes to the NBA, he picked the nuggets last year to be the top team In the NBA (wow, that team is defensively a mess) you can always cherry pick different opinions around the league but the major sports outlets always concentrate their opinions on the teams that are large markets (Miami Chicago new York and Brooklyn) that's why so many people pick those teams to be top of the line. To draw in audiences. I personally don't see them to be anything but lip service BUT respect is needed 7-0 (could very well be 11-0 at this rate before a real super challenge other than the grizzlies) Also I don't see a real challenge in division if d rose doesn't return to form. The pacers are built to win close games and I just don't see another team out there who is better than them at that other than the heat (MAYBE). This could be their year, add in granger and this team may become the top of the line team.

Gotta keep Granger healthy and that's a huge task. It seems like he's kinda become injury prone the last 2 years. The Heat aren't looking like "world beaters" right now, it's still early though. The Pacers do look like the team to beat in the East but that could change real fast with a couple injuries. I think the Nets have looked better than the Heat although their record doesn't show it. The Knicks are nowhere near as good as they were late last year. The Bulls really don't have much outside of Rose and Boozer. The East is really wide open with the top 4. It's way too early to predict the Pacers to win it all but they do look up to the challenge and I'd have to say if they keep playing at that level, it'll be hard to pick against them.

The nets have one of the worst records in the league...the heat have a winning record at least. Pacers haven't had granger all this year and last, he is a plus if we have him not a must. Do some research, pacers bring the lunch pale that makes consistency. Also the pacers boast one of the deepest benches in the NBA which will only get deeper with Granger. Scola has proven to be one of the best additions of the offseason and Watson. Also the pacers haven't come together offensively yet. THEY ARE UNDEFEATED AND STILL HAVEN'T SCORED 100 POINTS. Don't over think it.

Sadly, you could make ISU games free and still not pack the Hulman Center. Hope they can in Fresno.

Sadly, their arena won't be filled up either, it's a 15,000 seat arena and they're playing Cal State Northridge. AND, folks have to print out a voucher and bring it to the ticket office....I'm not a debbie downer, cuz I LOVE that Paul George did this, but I'll be more surprised than anyone if they actually "sell out".

Issue of Granger coming back after his injury is a tough one. He wants to start but do u want to mess with what they are doing now with the win streak and team chemistry! Would be great coming off the bench --which Bird favors--and thus bring him back slowly.
A lot of buzz that maybe it would be a great time for the Pacers to trade him as he has a lot to offer.
Nice problem to have indeed.
Tonights game at Chicago will be a good one for sure!
Go Pacers!

They've been ready to trade him for a while just haven't received many offers, I don't think. Too many questions right now about his health.

Also, the voucher thing is stupid, just let people in until the place is full. Count heads at the door if you have to, or hand them out as they come in to keep track of available seats. If he's willing to spend the money and fans are willing to show, the arena and university better do all they can to facilitate it and make it happen, not get in the way.

Sorry to say but Granger no longer fits in with the Pacers as a starter or from the bench. Remember when everyone was scratching their heads when Bird drafte Lance Stephenson?

Agree---and we know LB will not let him become a distraction due to not fitting in as a starter or bench player.

I think the other thing is Bird isn't likely to take back garbage to get rid of him and that is what he'll command at this point. They should have dealt him much sooner... Bird had to have known George was his replacement.
