Absolutely...Boda! Though OAR can sell out huge venues, they are a band that also appeals to the smaller sized audiences. Also, comedians have done well in HC over the years. Coolest thing I ever saw in Hulman Center (I was 2 years old in 1979) was Adam Sandler...it was histarical and sold out in like 8 minutes. It was awesome! To me it really boils down to bringing acts that college students want to see...Babyface is not an act that they want to see as a whole. Sure some do, but not many. WWE does well because it does well everywhere...there is a reason that Raw has been on TV forever.
If I were the folks running Hulman Center, I'd look at the acts that hit the Murat, White River State Park and Emerson Theater. They have no problem landing big name acts and tickets aren't overly expensive.

For instance, they have Saving Abel there on November 18th with 3 other bands and the tickets are $22. That's a bargain for a relatively young band that has had two Top 10 rock singles in this past year. New Found Glory is at Emerson on 11/6 and tickets are $17-20. Even the really hot bands like Breaking Benjamin are only $35.

I don't know who runs that kind of thing, but honestly, they may need some new blood. Get a local station to help sponsor the event like X103 does in Indianapolis and you can have an awesome event in the venue. I've been there for wrestling, comedians and a couple concerts and it isn't a bad venue.

Absolutely, The new blood is actually there (in my opinion) it is a matter of getting these "committees" of staff and administrators to get with the program!

I'd go see Saving Abel and Breaking Benjamin, I like those bands, and I most definitely want to see Adam Sandler, I am a huge fan of him.

95% of the concerts that have come to TH since I can remember have been country......

I'd like to see more bands like Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Atreyu, Incubus, etc........ Bands that the students would listen to.

The other issue is that we try to bring concerts here and charge $65 a ticket.

I think that bringing back a Homecoming concert is a great idea. However, an act like Babyface isn't what I would suggest. The bands I mentioned above will draw the students.....We need a badn that is played on WISU.

Like I said, it is an issue of the committees that are organized to "bring acts to HC" They have to have a meeting about a meeting, to then determine if they should meet again later, so that they can then brainstorm about bands/acts, so that they can then perform a needs assessment and survey from the students. Then they have to have another meeting to get the statistics from the needs assessment and survey, then they will plan another meeting to further discuss the statistics. Then they will invite students such as SGA president, IFC presidents, student leaders on campus to a meeting to discuss their findings, then they will have to give a report to the president and VPs. Then they will have another meeting to discuss what happened with all that, then yet another meeting to widdle down the list of bands/acts, then they will have another meeting to come to a decision to contact 2-3 bands/acts about coming to do a concert, then, of course another meeting to discuss the prices, availablility, etc.

And after all this meeting, all this discussion, all these ideas and wasted time, they will find that none of the bands/acts that the students want are available because they took 3-6 months to decide who to contact. The homecoming concert for this year is a direct result of this type of situation...waited far to long to get things rolling and thus, they were very, very limited on the opportunities. Most acts that college students would like to see have their schedules planned well in advance 1 or even 2 years...

Of course I exaggerate the meeting situation...but it isn't that much of a stretch. University staff and administrators literally have meetings to determine when they will have the next meeting...and subcommittees will have meetings, then the large committee will have a meeting about the subcommittee meeting...one of the most inefficient processes I have ever seen in my life.

That is what I was getting at with they need new blood in the administration. We've got it in the new President, but some of the folks still around that have created all of this red tape needs to go. It would also go along way in helping eliminate the Good Ole Boy network that is still thriving on campus.

ISU is a smaller school. It should be able to adapt and move quickly... there is no reason for this kind of thing. And it was present when I was a student. I remember trying to create a database for an office on campus and had to jump through layer after layer of people, roadblocks and indecision.

Sackalot, you just nailed the difference between existing on the world of academia, and existing in the real world. Our politicians listen to those types - and then we wonder why government is so appallingly inefficient...:krazy:
